Lance Armstrong places second at Leadville 100

Can you imagine what Dave Wiens must be feeling? The man beat Lance Armstrong on a bike this weekend but humbly kept it all in perspective: “The guy that I raced today wasn’t the guy who won the Tours.” Actually Armstrong was just a minute and 56 seconds behind Wiens which is perhaps one of the closest finishes ever in Leadville history where the winning time usually hovers near 7 hours.
Bicycle Retailer reports that Lance vowed to return next year in search of the gold which is pretty sweet news for mountain bike fans (though not for Dave Wiens, 6-time Leadville winner - sound familiar?). Even though Lance took second place in the extreme MTB race it’s certainly not the first time he’s lost a competitive athletic event since his 7th Tour de France victory. Here’s a shot I snapped at the Boston Marathon where Armstrong was beat by, oh say, a couple thousand male and female runners. I’m pretty sure the only thing I could beat Lance Armstrong at would be a typing contest
Maybe.

The article also mentions specific races Lance is said to be planning to attend in 2009 including the Tour de Georgia. Woo hoo! [...]
