Description
Get ready for a fun singletrack downhill. There are several switchbacks on the smooth ride
down, nothing technical here. It can be really muddy once in the dense green forest. 3.5
miles later you'll find yourself at another trailhead. Take the Harkins Ridge trail back up to
the parking lot or Purisma Creek Trail (preferred). The Purisma Creek Trail is a lovely ride
by the creek for a while and then a gradual 3+ mile climb on doubletrack for nearly 1700 ft
all the way to Skyline Blvd. Take the road north (left) for an easy 2 miles back to your car.
Overall, the ride is fun, easy, and the wildflowers and surroundings are lovely.

Review: Amazing first half.. downhill is great. Puts you into a redwood forest with sweet turns and scenery. Get's muddy - but who doesn't like mud?A couple moguls but the rangers enforce a 15mph speed limit. Climb back however, is pretty intense. Not really what I would call gradual.

Review: What everyone else says is pretty accurate, but why does everyone start at the top? Start at the bottom, earn the downhill first while you still have all your energy, then bomb downhill to the small parking lot. Good times!

Review: Very fun downhill ride, but the looong climb back out kind of kills the fun you had on the way down. There are 4-6 places you have to dismount and walk it uphill over rock gardens on the way back, really kills any climbing momentum.

Review: First half is a nice downhill. Great scenery, redwoods. Uphill is long, but mostly shady and OK for intermediate level.

Review: All downhill and then all up. I prefer to mix it up. Also the trails are far too tailored for my taste. Not technical at all. Great views, but I won't be back for mountain biking.

Similar Trail: Just up the road at El Corte de Madera Creek!!!

Review: I did this trail in the opposite order described here. First, I did the doubletrack climb, and then the downhill. Personally, I much prefer to finish a ride with the rush of a downhill rather than dull plodding of a climb. The climb (1700' over 3.5 miles) isn't very steep or technical, except at a few points, which my friend Mike calls the "fingers of god" ("You think you can make it, and then God waves his finger and says 'Uh-uh.'"). The fingers are stretches of 25-50 meters where the trail gets much steeper and rutted, sometimes with the added bonus of loose dirt to further confound efforts to maintain forward momentum. When the climb ends at the top of a ridge, there is an area that has been cleared so that you can take in a gorgeous view of Half Moon Bay. Then there's about a mile of trail with slights ups and downs that more or less cancel each other out. After that begins the downhill. I have never ridden a better stretch of singletrack downhill in my life. It starts out above the dense forest, with switchbacks and some sizeable dirt humps that are great for jumping. Once the trail hits the forest, it get's *very* fast. A wonderful rush.
