Description:
The VelociRaptors are legendary mountain bike tires. They are quite possibly the most popular tires in the history of the sport. The front is renowned for its steering control, while the rear grabs the trail with predictable tenacity. After 13 years of diligent service, the VelociRaptors still shine as dependable front/rear specific tires.

Pros
Traction
Price - Jenson USA was the best

Cons
Drag in wet

Review
Huge increase from the old Bontrager Connection Trails I was running. They were great tires, but it was time. Great grip in pine straw, leaves, sand, and rocks. Even impressive in the rain on all the above.

Pros
Traction , Price , Quality , Reliability and they look cool on my bikes.

Cons
Haven't found any yet.

Review
I run these on both of my bikes. They seem to work best for me when I have them inflated between 35 and 45 psi. I've only lost traction one time with them, but to this day I still believe it was my fault not the tires fault. They stick to everything. I don't race so rolling resistance is not a factor. These tires handle any thing in PA ( rocks , rocks and more rocks with some roots thrown in) and they haven't failed yet. The only thing I haven't tried them in yet is snow ,thats coming this season, and I doubt I will have a problem with them.

Pros
Traction. Price.

Cons
Rolling resistance

Review
No need to echo others reviews about this great tire. For the high rolling resistance crowd, reverse the rear tire so it runs opposite of the markings. 95% of the traction with only about 75% of the rolling resistance. Not perfect but a good improvement.

Pros
New England has alot of Depth to the trails. Meaning the trails are often covered in leaves and Pine needles. These seem to be the only tires that stick in those conditions

Cons
Not really wide enough. They only come in 2.10 a 2.2 or 2.3 would be nice

Review
Great grip Great durability Great tire

Pros
Im 245 lbs. And two tires I tried out washed out all the time. Especially on wet roots. These tires will grip anything. And I mean anything. I love them. Get them. Bet u can't find one bad review. That should tell u something.

Cons
Maybe the front tire isn't as grippy as I thought? Still good though.

Pros
Excellent grip on the uphills, and the rear holds fast even in the roughest stuff.

Cons
The front seems to slip out more then expected.

Review
I like these tires, the rear is a beast on uphills and rarely slips on technical stuff. The front is a different story, it seems to slip and fall off roots and rocks and seems to wash out a little in sand. Like a previous reviewer stated the front needs to be inflated less then the rear to make up for some of these issues.

Cons

Review
I dont care what people say or how much they pay for tires. I spent $40 for both the front and back and these babys tear it up with no problem. Remember these are not a street tread but they can still handle high speeds on it. VelociRaptors are the $hit

These are now my go to tires. I love the grip and the rolling resistence isnt really all that bad to me

Review
I run the back tire and it is a great climber! Cant wait to test it to the limits!

Pros
Price, $30 for 2 online.
Great grip both front and back.

Cons
Are a little heavy but small price to pay.

Have to echo everyone else, these tires rock. Best bang for the buck you can get. What are you waiting for?

Good grip and traction, they contact the ground with a positive reenforcement.

They feel a little out of place on hard pack.

After using these bad boys solid for a couple of months I've seen what they are capable of doing. First off it's pretty agreeable that these tires have tremendous traction, that's no lie. I feel like these tires have made me a better rider alone! Also the front is really good at steering. With everything there is a balance, they have a relatively low rolling resistance even at a decent PSI (just try and adjust the air to make up for it). Overall, I'd recommend these tires to people of any skill level.

Pros
Don't over inflate the front tire for improved handing. I prefer 30 - 35 psi in the front and 30 to 50 psi in the back depending on terrain.

Cons
Keep pressure under 50 psi. Noisy front tire (on pavement) but lets others know your're around.

Review
Gripping has saved me a couple of times on wet pavement. Great mountain tire for the weekend warrior...but don't over inflate front tire when mountain biking.

Pros
traction and smooth ride

Cons
noise on pavement

Review
great tire. im running a 26 x 2.1 in the back of my hard tail. the traction for climbs and general trail riding is 10x better than the bontragners i had on the bike. my only complaint is the noise they make when doing any urban riding. i keep thinking the damn thing is flat because of the noise the tread makes on the pavement.

Pros
Great grip with low rolling resistance. Great cornering.

Cons
A real PITA to mount even the race series with Kevlar.

Review
There is a reason these tires are some of the most trusted tires on the trails. I went from kenda nevegals to these. There is no comparasion. Im pushing speeds and cornering that I only wished to do with the Kendas.

Pros
Can be had for about $20 a tire at this point. Great rear hook up in any terrain. Slow wearing. Directional rear really makes a difference depending on terrain.

Cons
Almost as heavy as DH tires. Slow rolling over smooth terrain.

Review
I have to echo the going consensus on these tires, they're pretty sweet for a do it all tire that won't break your bank. If weight and rolling resistance is not a concern of yours, go for it.

reviewed by maddslacker   on May 23, 2009

Pros
Great traction on a variety of surfaces
Reasonably priced
Rubber compound holds up well
Front and Rear specific, directional treads
They look great (you know, that's important too) :D

Cons
VERY hard to mount on my WTB rims, go figure

Review
I am on my second set of these, but the first set is still serviceable, I only replaced them because I caught a sale.
I have run them on my hard tail and now on my full suspension.
For those who say the front washes out or the rear loses grip on climbs...CHECK YOUR PRESSURE!
I weigh 200lbs and run mine at 28 - 30. They grip extremely well, yet I have never had a pinch flat either.
I ride in Colorado and Utah, so I can confirm that these are great on sand, gravel, slickrock, hardpack, roots, etc, but I have never ridden them in mud.

Pros
Super awesome grip on roots and loose soil. Allows for dual rotational direction on the rear according to trail conditions

Cons
None to speak of.

Review
Killer tires. I love em so much they may be the only tires I buy from now on. Absolutely killer on Florida trails

reviewed by Suvacrew   on January 5, 2009

Pros
Rear tire is the legend, the front tire is so so

Cons
Front tire will wash out and lacks great descending capabilities.

Review
The rear tire and the design that allows the switching of rotation direction for mud vs dry conditions is superior to most other tires. I use a Velo rear with a Pan XC FirePro front for XC racing

Pros
MAD MAD Grip on the rear tire! Cant ask for a better performing tire for the Florida sand. You could climb a wall with these puppies.

Cons
None!

Review

Pros
Awesome & legendary MTB tires! I have used these tires since my inception into MTB'ing (15 years). Absolutely great traction (RT), good steering (FT), very dependable tires all around. I love Kendas, but I will always stick to my VelociRaptors and I truly hope that WTB will continue producing them. Ride hard & ride safe!

Cons
Absolutely NONE!!

I have had a variety of tires and these by far have been the best. They're probably my third or fourth set. I hope WTB keeps making them.

reviewed by spazjensen   on July 18, 2008

Pros
Great performance, and I like the profile of them to. No slippage when really having to dig in for a climb, and great while in fast sweeping turns and curves

Cons
Don't let your leg get caught on the rear tire. It will tear your leg up bad, and you feel it for a week.

Review
These tires are awesome!!!

Pros
Great traction and overall performance.

Cons
I have no dislikes over these tires, they have done a great job for me and I hope that WTB continues to produce them.

I've had these tires for the last 10 years and they still kick butt! Even though its time to replace them.

reviewed by bstill30   on May 7, 2008

Pros
I love the grip, weight and price. Even in the Northwest mud, these tires want to climb, turn and brake like a champ.

Cons
None.

I recommend this tire for anyone who wants a proven winner on the trail.
