I got mine in 2005, and there have not been any catastrophic failures or anything. Just good clean riding, and a lot of it over the years.

I bought a 2009 Trek 3900 a few months ago as an entry level bike to get me into MTB. It is a great bike for a beginning rider like me. It was priced really well as an 09' closeout and I have the confidence of a Trek bike. It ride it on mostly beginner and intermediate singetrack and it does everything that I ask it to do. I know as my skills develop that I will need to upgrade the bike, but for now it was a great buy for me.

I purchased this as a 2009 closeout about 4 weeks ago. So far, I love it. I just got back into riding (about 12 years) and so far this has been a great purchase. I would recommend this to anyone getting back into riding and considering MTB. Great price, handles great and has Trek quality. The components seem solid and the weight is fine as I'm not jumping of any cliffs (yet!). I ride mostly on paved trails and short single tracks - not many in Iowa :)

I've had my 3900 for 4 years, and ride mainly moderate/intermediate trails. It handles roots, embeded rocks, sandy, gravel, and hardpack well. I ride once or twice a week and my rides are anywhere from 5 to 10 miles. I consider myself a recreational rider. I did put better tires on it and replaced the plastic pedals with clipless. I also changed the seat to something more comfortable. I wouldn't consider this a flaw but just personal preference. I would recommend this bike to anyone who's just starting in mountain biking and doesn't want to spend or can't afford to spend a grand or more on a bike. Especially for those who want to ride on dirt, but aren't going to do rock gardens or downhill.

I bought this bike for a 11 year old so he could keep up with everyone. I didn't want to spend high dollar on a bike he would out grow fast and a "Walmart" bike wasn't going to cut it. Great bike for someone who just wants to ride but isn't commited to serious riding. The bike has handled everytjing my others have with the only breakdowns being flat tires (kid is thorn magnet).

I bought this bike last weekend and finally got to ride it for a good while last night on some trails. I am new to MTB, but I used to BMX, so it's coming back quickly. I compared this with the GF Tarpon and liked this one a little better due to slightly better components. This is a great bike for new riders, and also a good bike for those who don't ever see themselves ramping off 20 foot jumps. ;)
