ProsPower: The stopping ability of this drum-brake is surprising.... and insane. Quality: The XFD isn't a cheapo stamped aluminum hub of old... It spins like silk, and it's built like a tank. All-Weather: The hub is sealed against all manner of water and grime, meaning that it won't lose it's effectiveness when encountering a snowdrift, downpour, or puddle/stream.
ConsWeight: At 770g/1.69lbs, this hub isn't light. Use: This hub is meant for cruiser/commuter bikes with forks that accept a 9mm bolt-axle. Also, the torque-arm's bracket is fairly small, intended for rigid forks or springers. Availability: This is a hard-to-find piece of componentry. If you're considering an XFD hub, and manage to find one in stock, snatch it up!
VerdictThis hub is a must for anyone looking to build up an old vintage klunker, or upgrade their commuter bike. Most commuter/city bikes aren't set up for disc-brakes, so this hub will offer disc-brake power at a considerably cheaper price, and be compatible with the average commuter/city bike. The hub is certainly heavy, but when compared to a cheap v-brake (or disc) system that isn't effective, the weight becomes a moot point.
