On a recent trip to Moab, two people in our group broke their Sram X-9 rear derailleurs, both on Slickrock Trail, both in the same part of the Sram's plastic body.
If you ride a lot, and have the money, get this model, if you're on a budget, get the cheaper XT.
The XT is heavier, and doesn't shift quite as well (I currently own both) but both models work as advertised, and are priced according to their respective features.
Either way, Shimano will get you there and back with minimal fuss.
Pros
Great crisp shifting, will shift under load. Reverse spring helps shifting uphill.
Cons
none, so far

I replace an XT rapid rise with this one. It shifts a little better than the XT. Will shift under even extreme load uphill. Super shifting up and down. Love it!
