Description: (from

New XCR MP3 multi-link suspension design is optimized to shed weight: 17" frame & rear shock weigh approximately 5 1/2 lbs
Bell crank seat tube pivot point allows for a lighter butted top tube (1.3 - 0.9- 1.5 i/o 1.6PG) & reduces rear triangle size for less weight
Frame features Kinesium tubing with butted down tube support strut, semi-hollow chainstay
yoke, hollowed seatstay ends, minimalized bell crank & shock brackets, forged & CNC'ed bell crank
Near vertical axle path, fully-active 100mm rear wheel travel, Fox Float R rear shock with factory set ProPedal & externall adjustable rebound damping
Constant seatstay & bell crank length on all frame sizes assures ride characteristics are the same regardless of frame size
Manitou R7 Super features 100mm of air sprung/TPC damped suspension with external preload & rebound adjustors and lockout, stiff-but-light 30mm alloy stanchions, & Reverse Arch magnesium sliders
The Reverse Arch design offers greater torsional stiffness than standard arch-in-front designs yielding a higher stiffness to weight ratio & enhanced steering control & tracking accuracy
Shimano new Deore XT rear derailleur features a wide link design for greater rigidity & more precise shifting (and is a hi-normal reutrn spring design)
Shimano new Deore LX Rapidfire shifters offer a "2-way" release, allowing the upper lever to be pulled with the forefinger or pushed with the thumb depending upon rider preference
Avid Juicy 3 dual piston hydraulic disc brakes offer greater stopping power than single piston systems
Easton EA30 cockpit parts feature Easton's proprietary aluminum taper wall technology, a cold working process that produces multiple tapers to eliminate stress points & dissipate impact energy evenly
The spoke bed eyelets featured on the Mavic XM117 double wall rims are critical for rim longevity & durability. Disc brake torque will twist the hub, increasing the load on the nipples in the spoke bed. The addition of eyelet inserts in the rim prevents nipples from tearing through the spoke bed
WTB Rocket V Comp saddle offers a slim contoured shape with small "whale-tail" rear that enhances pedaling leverage

| Pros | This is my first full suspension bike, and coming from a rigid frame whose geometry wasn't at all conducive to XC riding, the experience has been great. The Dakar is a joy to ride straight from the shop: great riding position, comfortable geometry, an excellent component package and good looks to boot. Switching from V-brakes to the hydraulic discs was an enjoyable adjustment, and I quickly found my ideal settings for the suspension components. | | Cons | My *only* complaint so far is that the stock seatpost bracket requires a hex wrench to adjust. I like to drop the seat a bit for steep descents, so I'll probably swap in a quick-release bracket in order to do so on the fly. | | Verdict | The Dakar XCR Comp has turned out to be an excellent first FS bike for me, and I anticipate it'll be more bike than I'll need for years to come. | |
