Hayes Stroker Ryde Reviews
Description:
These feature a totally new, compact lever design that saves space and weight. Wow! Packed with features like new insulated caliper pistons to isolate high temperatures caused by long periods of extended braking. A bigger bladded means more fluid capacity = less fade.
* Superior sensitivity - push faster and further into corners, knowing you can stop with
confidence
* Included rotors fit 6 bolt hubs
* Kit includes lever, caliper, and pre-bled line ready to mount and ride
* claimed 390 grams (6" size)
Hayes disc brake calipers conform to the 74mm post mount standard. They will mount directly to forks with 74mm post mounts / 6" rotors, no adapters required. Fitting to 51mm frames or forks requires a Hayes adapter, which is not included. The Stoker Ryde also works with 7", 8" and 9" rotors as long as you use the correct adaptor (larger size rotors and the required adaptors are not included in kit)

Pros
a better design and quality over the hayes 9 brakes. decent feel on the levers and fairly easy to work on. decent pad life and no brake squeal.
Cons
not a lot of stopping power even with 8 inch rotors. hi.gh price for the quality
Review
I do not recommend any of the hayes disc brakes. I have blown out 5-6 hayes 9s and 2 of the stroker rydes. but I am pretty brutal on equipment.

Pros
Cheap (now about $60.00), work pretty good, look cool.
Cons
Not super reliable, corrode easy.

Within one year the brakes totally seized on me. Hayes did give me new brakes under warranty after multiple attempts to fix at the local bike shop. They tend to corrode fast too. I do live near the ocean but store in my garage and there's corrosion all over them. Overall the brakes work pretty good though.

Pros
Hydraulic
Cons
How the brake levers feel sometimes. Tend to transition from stiff to spungy quickly, but could just be normal wear and tear.

A pretty good brake. I could definitely imagine a lot of room for improvement though.
