Just a quick note to everyone that we updated the singletracks iPhone app this week and the new version should be showing up in iTunes today. This is officially version 1.0 (the first one was 0.9) and we’re really stoked about it. The updated app features a more native look and feel and should be more responsive as well. Here are the highlights:
- Create or log in to your singletracks account within the app. Once you’re logged in you can update trail statuses, add trail and gear reviews, add trails to your wishlist, and check-in whenever you hit the trail.
- View up to 18 photos of each trail in the new photo gallery.
- New search and filter functions make it easy to zero-in on the trail and gear reviews you want to find.
- Improved blog integration with thumbnails and enhanced readability.
Of course you can still find the closest trails based on your current location and get turn-by-turn directions to the trailhead. There are some other nice little surprises included as well that you can only access when you’re logged into your singletracks account. The app should also work well on iPad for those of you who roll that way.
For those who aren’t on an iPhone, you can access the mobile site through any web browser right here. And for those with an Android phone, good news: the new app should be super easy to port which means we hope to have an Android version available in the next few weeks.

How is the android app coming along?
@madd: Just a matter of porting it over and submitting the app to one of the app stores (I have no idea which one(s) are best). The “app” is just a wrapper around the mobile website anyway and it’s mainly geared toward folks who aren’t already familiar with singletracks (it’s all about distribution!).
So… even though we don’t have an Android app available at the moment, you can actually get the same exact thing by going to the mobile website linked above and adding a link to it on your home screen. That being said, we hope to get an official Android app put together in the next few weeks.
I already do that with my Blackberry, but I thought I’d ask the question.
The new App is great. Having directions to trails on my phone without having to switch around is fantastic!
The app has so much potential…please don’t stop making it better and better! Not sure where else to submit a review for the app so items properly get addressed, so I’ll leave something here. Don’t take this criticism as un-appreciation, because an app for MTB has sooooooo much potential.
No offense because we truly do appreciate the effort building a singletracks app, but no one likes an app wrapping a mobile site. A few other companies do that so updates are easy (like Wells Fargo), but the user experience always goes way down hill. The responsiveness is laggy and it cause more issues than it helps fix. From a user perspective, it appears lazy…sorry.
Having a mobile site is great, and having a separate iPhone app is great too. Combining the two into one is not great. You could even charge a buck or two for the app to clearly differentiate between the two if need be. I know I would gladly pay for a native app made for the iPhone if I knew continued development would occur.
@ last commenter – agreed. We’ve got a plan for speeding things up and adding more native features like posting trail photos directly from your phone’s camera. But first we gotta get an Android version out so those guys quit complaining every time we post about the iPhone app.
One of the best features of the other version was the ability to view all the trails on a map. I used it all the time to plan my routes and figure out where the best trails were before I went there. Now it just shows local trails, which I already know. If I search an individual trail, it only shows that trail and no others.
Example: I am going to Vegas. I want to know all the trails along the way so that I can plan my route and hit a couple of trails on the way. It used to be easy to do that, now it seems impossible. Is there anyway you can incorporate that feature back into the app?
Yeah, that was a nice feature but unfortunately it loaded way too slowly on most phones. You’ll have to use the regular site for that feature.
