Next week is bike to work week and while not *officially* a mountain bike event we thought you’d want a heads up. SFGate.com published an article with commuter fashion tips from none other than Mr. Gary Fisher himself and it’s worth a read if you’re killing time waiting for the weekend to start. It seems apparel companies are getting smarter about designing clothing that works well on the bike but also looks good for work (one woman even claims it’s easier to bike in high heels than to walk in them). I wouldn’t know about that myself.
The League of American Bicyclists website has a listing of bike events around the country during the month of May (national bike month) – find your local ride and bike to work next week!

That’s pretty cool to hear. I know around here where I live this week we had what’s called the Way to Go Challenge. And it was similar to this event, only it focuses more on the eco-friendly part, rather than biking itself. But it nevertheless, still rad to see people on a bike, I can almost connect better with them. Haha
I’ll pass on the ride to work thing. I used to ride with my wife to her work and then ride back home to get ready for business and my sons schooling, but I stopped that due to every dang time I ride on the rode, I either come within a feet from getting hit by careless drivers or have been hit by drivers rolling at stops or stop signs. I am sick of it! Even if I take the back roads, its the same dang thing. Bad part about it all, they always feel it is me at fault. I promise you, I follow all the traffic laws pertaining to bikes on roads. I yield and stop as required, and always pay very close attention to yahoos driving their vehicles. Still, even after very precautions riding, I still always hook up with the morons behind their so called invincible wheels that think they own everything around them and you have no place in their zone. I give up with the roadie thing! Sorry, but it is so much safer screaming down a mountain or hillside at over 40 mph speeds.
Personally, I wish we could all go back to a simplier life, especially ones without vehicles. I rather walk or ride before driving! Thats just me though!
I know what you mean goose,I’ve been pelted by eggs, patoatos, and trash riding around in the burbs or city.I just commented on my bike path sabotage in a post about chain link fencing being laid across the path so you couldnt see it till it was too late. What good is a bike path or bike way if your getting pumelled by flying objects from cars going 40 mph coming at you.The patato laid me out for about 15 minutes till I got the mucsle seizure in my leg to go away so I could get back on the bike and pedal.I hate to bring this stuff up at bike to work month but what better time to get more attention to a realistic problem that is keeping people like me from wanting to ride to work.
Here’s some good news from here in Colorado,it’ll still be hard to catch these creeps so be prepared to get there license plate number because there’ll almost never be a cop around to see it happen, but at least we have the ability to get back at em.
COLORADO SPRINGS — Gov. Bill Ritter signed a bill today aimed at protecting the rights of cyclists.
The measure, Senate Bill 148, requires that drivers give cyclists at least 3 feet of space when passing or risk a $110 ticket.
Anyone who throws an object at a cyclist could be charged with a class 2 misdemeanor. That carries a fine of between $250 and $1,000 and a possible sentence of three to 12 months in jail.
The bill was sponsored by a bipartisan pair of avid cyclists — Republican Sen. Greg Brophy and Democratic Rep. Mike Merrifield. It will take effect Aug. 5.
AWESOME!!!!!! Should be at least a 1st Degree Misdemeanor if not a 3rd Degree Felony. I also feel that the drivers at fault should have their license and tag revoked, and I do not mean suspended, I mean “REVOKED.”
This is just plain mean and threatening to a bicycle riders life, and quite possibly pedestrians in the same area. Finally some form of justice prevails for us bicycle riders!! Woo Hoo!!
