Description: Wilderness is nothing too exciting or challenging, but it is a lot of fun, and has a lot more variety than one would think. One could easily ride for many hours on this trail, and actually end up a little lost since it can be quite the confusing network of trails. It\'s mostly lush scenery, expect to see deer but not too many other riders. It stays pretty quiet.

Fun, easy, non-technical ride through the woods. Parallels the Jamaica Rail Trail (crushed limestone trail) To acess all the ST requires some riding on the Jamaica, and as of 9-11-11 the bike bridge across the Salt River was closed (clain link fence closed!) Use Jamaica Trail and W. Old Cheney Rd to get to west side trails.

There are two main trailheads to this park: Pioneers Road, West of 14th, and South 14th St, South of Yankee Hill Road. Each trailhead has a parking lot, but no amenities. The trail itself is flat, and transitions between wooded areas and open meadows. There are multiple wide bridge crossings. This is a flat, easy beginner trail, but the loads of turns make it a fun ride for any skill level of rider. From time to time, it gets muddy or washed out, and because it is so flat, the drainage is slower than at most trails.

Wilderness is a favorite of mine. This is a mixed use trail with bike, horse and foot paths. Most intersections are marked and the trails overlap in spots. The trail wanders along with the meandering Salt Creek that runs through the park. Sections north of Pioneers Road were under reconstruction last I checked. Most of this trail is simple single track with a good variety of flat trail and dips. Several bridges cross the stream and the trail crosses (generally dry) stream beds twice on the southern end, making for some technical climbs. The park also contains the Jamaica trail, a flat limestone trail on old railroad grade. Often riders will take wilderness trails in and return on Jamaica for a quick trip back to the starting point. The trail is 26 miles of winding trail. Only one street crossing at 14th street keeps you focusing on the ride. Generally this trail is a 2-3 hour ride. Being sandy dirt, it gets muddy after a rain but the trails dry quickly in most areas.
