Description: Wild Turkey has become one of the most popular trails east of the mountains. Constructed by The Greensboro Fat Tire Society constructed in early 2008.

Wild Turkey has been cleared of most roots, smooth groomed single-track in the beautiful woods along Lake Brandt. The trail is fast, fun, flows great, great berms, rock jumps, skinny's, and even a few climbs.

Come see why riders come from all over North Carolina to ride Wild Turkey!

I walked this trail before I rode it. It looked pretty doable walking but biking it is much more of a challenge. I rode out to a little past the fire lane. It seemed a little to technical for one with out disc brakes and riding alone. So i hit the fire trail hard. That was pretty fun. It does not see to flow like Wild Turkey does.

I loved Wild Turkey. What a great out and back. Or you can keep going from there and Hhit Owl's Roost. Wild Turkey is free flowing, not overwhelmingly difficult, and an all around fun ride. I hit it three times in three days.

Great trail with a really good flow. A few difficult climbs and some pretty technical stuff for me but I'm new at this. Overall one of the best trails I've ridden so far, very well marked and enough up and down to give you a work out but not overwork you too much at once. Sections of the trail are really fast (maybe too fast for a newbie like myself) but the berms help with maintaining control. Overall great trail.

This is one of the quickest trails in the area, and it is very smooth (very little roots to speak of) with lots of good flow. Not the most technical trail around, but there are a few skinnys, dips, log pyramids. Still, with the speed you can carry along it should be one of the staples to always hit when you're in the area. They should update the site though, this trail is fully complete.

Fast and flowy, this is a fun trail. Would be nice to loop this with other trails around Lake Brandt but for now it's an out and back since the Piedmont Trail is closed to bikes.

Watch out for mud on this trail. Its very slick and can take you out quickly. This time of the year is bad because of thawing of the first half inch of soil during the day leaves frozen earth below making for very hazardous riding. But its still fun and riding anytime is better than sitting at home watching the tube.

Amazing trail. I try to ride it at least three times a week. It is fast if you want it to be, i've gone down more on this trail than an other because of the mud. Everything is perfect on this trail but the last mile does not drain if there is any rain. Props to the builders.

Wild Turkey is in great shape and beautiful with the trees in peak fall foliage. Posted new pictures.

The weekend of October 4th 2008, the Greensboro Fat Tire Society volunteers constructed a bridge-boardwalk over the 2nd stream, the last remaining construction task to finish Wild Turkey. We also improved some of the berms on the downhill section leading to the bridge, and improved the 3 log bridge by filling in the 2 grooves between the logs with cement. The trail is now 100% complete!

This is a great trail! The trail is hard packed and has lots of S curves and whop tee do's. A truely great ride. The Greensboro Fat Tire Society did a great job of designing and building a fun fast trail.

As previous reviews have stated, this is really nice trail. Great workout. I also run a hard tail and it is a bit bumpy in spots as it is still new (but it has been getting better as more people ride it).

Wild Turkey is a great out and back ride. It is very well packed down now and can be ridden pretty fast. It has a lot of S curves and whoop-de-doos to keep you on your toes. There are a few log pyramids that you have to ride over, but most of them are avoidable if you like. Also, it was surprisingly bumpy on my hardtail for how few roots there were. You probably wouldn't notice it on a full suspension though. Overall, I think its a great trail for beginners and advanced riders alike.

A truly FUN trail. Trail takes several days to dry out after rainfalls (translates into a more demanding workout). Nevertheless, this trail is totally worth it! Thanks to all those from Greensboro's Fat Tire Society who volunteered their time to give our community this GIFT!!

Wild Turkey is really getting packed down and turning into a fast highway! The flow is much better now that the new singletrack is getting a lot of traffic which has ironed out the soft organic soil that was slower just a few weeks ago. This is a great trail that should be on your don't miss list.

This trail is worth going to Greensboro to ride. The Fat Tire Society has really done a great job building this trail. It has berms, log crossings, bridges of varying sizes, woopdedoos, some small climbs, and jumps. It has it all and is very well layed out in a 4.5 mile out and back track. Ride it in both directions and you will get a totally different experience. The trail is new but is getting plenty of traffic and is pratically broke in now. The signage needs to be a little bigger since there is opportunity to turn onto a hikers only trail at different points along the trail but I spoke with Reserverockhopper while on the trail and he says that new signage is on its way. Overall, I really enjoyed the trail and everyone riding there was very friendly. I will be back.

This trail is GREAT!!! Wonderful job and many many thanks to the Fat Tire Society.... Very well done! Great flowing track but with plenty of good turns, small jumps to get some air, incredible berms, and whoopdedoos that will give you whiplash. Also a great length. I was going to do this and Owl's Roost, but by the time I got done with just this one, I was DONE (keep in mind it was after work plus my first ride this spring, have to "get back in the saddle"). People, get out there and ride this trail to break it in, one or two of the whoopdedoos need to be "worn-in", they are a bit steep but will get better just with use. Be careful on them though, one rider I talked to said he hit one the wrong way, it threw him forward and he racked his ribs on his bars. Also, be careful of the signs, I know the society is working on more permanant signs, but until then, keep your eyes open for the ones on the trees. Final thought, when coming from Bur-mill side, and you cross the bridge and the trail splits again (Nat Greene trail--left, Wild Turkey--right), you do go right but then hang an immediate left. Taking a double right will lead you to a branch of the Nat Greene Trail that goes to a neighborhood. This trail is GREAT!

I haven't had the chance to ride this yet, but I'm looking forward to it. I've looked all over on where the trail head is, but I can't seem to find it. Could anyone let me know where the trail head is and where to park?

We completed another full work day and the trail is now ridable! We have some grooming to do in small spots and a few bridges to complete, but you can now go out and ride Wild Turkey. This is a very fun trail. 4.5 miles each direction.

We have now punched through and reached the end. We still have some grooming to do. Trail distance is 4.5 miles one way.

This is a walking review only because of the recent Seatle weather but this trail is looking like a blast. I walked in from the greenway heading toward the marina, mostly uphill for the first mile or so before i turned back. The trail is way smooth and well drained. The fat tire club has added some fun along the route via log ramps and sandy burms for the downhillers. Can't wait for the weather to chill out for a test cruise

Thanks Rockhopper! I sorta figured I was on the hiking only trail when I was getting dirty looks by the hikers. But the hiking trail was pretty sick. Some nice climbs and decents. Nice work on Wild Turkey. I will frequent it often. Maybe I'll even come to the next trailwork day.

mnoe, Your friend told you correctly, at the bridge if you went left, then you took the hiking trail split. We need to get a sign there where w are sharing the bridge and where it forks so riders don't make the same mistake, there is no way to know for new riders to the area. Wild Turkey is still under construction so if you went right, you would have not gotten much further before you came to the end of construction. We have a ways to cut it to the marina. Hopefully we will complete it this spring. Next trail work day is April 5th.

This is a nice trail not only because it's something new, but it connects other watershed trails for more continuous rides (Owls Roost & Reedy Fork). Put all 3 together, and you have some serous riding. Trail starts off easy rolling through the terrain. Nice whoop-dee-doos keep it rolling. Some log pyramids, but relatively smooth. Not as rooty as Owl's Roost. Somewhat easier as well. But about 2.5 miles into it is a nice rock drop (only about a 2 foot drop) but unexpected. After the rock drop is an excellent downhill decent incorporating 4-5 nice berms, and a roller coaster type up and down. You can catch some decent air on some if you keep your speed. At the bottom of the downhill is a small bridge and the trail forks left and right. I had no idea which way to go, so I went left. I'm told by one of my biking buddies that may have been the hiking only trail, but anyway it was biked today. It ends up at the Lake Townsend Marina where you can get on the Reedy Fork Trail. I will try a right at the fork next time to see where it goes. Maybe the right turn is the actual "biking" trail.

Similar Trail: Owls Roost, Reedy Fork
