Description
The trails vary from rocky to...well rocky. The trails are very fast but we share most of them with joggers. The upper loop is very fast and has some cool views of the airport. There are bathroom facilities available and several pavilions for BBQs and the like. On Saturdays there are a multitude of activities out here from soccer games to running events. the local bike clubs have races out here every year as well. The fee is FREE and the park is a good place to bring young or inexperienced riders. There are some pretty good hills to try their legs out on as well as some VERY rocky areas to try their suspensions out on as well (THE ROCK GARDEN). Overall this is a pretty good ride for a quick 10 miler!

Review: BIKER GOING WRONG WAY ON BLUE RUN HITS ME! Outer loop (6.4 mile blue run). An out-of-control biker crashed into me and my friend this weekend. It was Horrible! After getting up of off the ground, I asked "why are you riding towards the back of the mile markers" (he was facing the back of the signs...flying down the hill clockwise)???" He crashed into us coming from behind (not facing) the blue 3 mile sign marker. Its on the small hill of blue outer run by the baseball area. He said he goes both ways...and "who the *uck cares" which way is which. I said "if you can read the front of the posted mile marker signs (riding your bike counter clockwise w/ your right shoulder always facing to the outside of the clock/loop)...Then you are going the right way, safe way to ride the bike trial. I told him if the mile markers signs are NOT facing you, or you can't read them, then you are going the WRONG WAY! He gave us a dirty look...No sorry, nothing else, with his head phones blaring, he said "who *ucking cares which way is what"! Then took off! We were in shock! My bike front rim was bent. My knee was bleeding. A few seconds later, another biker coming from our direction. She, asked us if we needed help. We briefly to her what happened. She said, that the guy almost hit her a few yards back on the trail! My friend and i walked my bike back to our car near the front entrance lot. I've been riding this trail for over 2yrs. I RIDE COUNTER CLOCKWISE. I SEE THE MILE MARKERS PAINTED ON SIGNS FACING FORWARD (MILE 1, MILE 2, VISTA, WATCH FOR RABBITS :). I AM SAFE AND RESPONSIBLE...MOST OF COURTEOUS OF OTHERS, I USE MY HORN. For years, I have asked several riders and friends with all agreement...face the signs. The signs (mile markers) are posted that way for the BLUE RUN for a reason! It's a bit harder on red and other areas...but come on people, they are there too) Someone is going to get (or maybe has already) Seriously hurt. It's very sad and just so irresponsible for riding going the wrong way. For what? If your bored or just ignorant of others safety, please go to a remote area. PLEASE SPREAD THE WORD ABOUT BEING RESPECTABLE AND SAFE AND JUST PLAIN FAIR! This is a fun place when safe and being cool. NOTE! Walkers, runners and hikers... please go clockwise/your right side shoulders facing into the middle of loop. Run so you are looking at the back of the signs (mile markers). It is just like walking against traffic on the street. It's safe! It's the right thing! This way you will see bikes coming. If you need signs to help direct you...just turn you head at each point you pass, and count the miles that way. Why risk you, kids and your dogs? It could be so easy....so safe for everyone. Plus Bikers get HORNS>BELLS!! Warn people ahead of time. God I hope someone never gets seriously hurt... If they do bikers, they will shut down bikes...there's no other place to ride near SA. Please Help!

Review: Trail is more for beginners or someone wanting to learn to MTB. The main trail is marked but has a lot of side trails that aren't. If you we're teaching someone to ride this is the park but if you have been riding more than a couple yrs. find somewhere else to go.

Review: Rode 15mi around the blue trail, plus a couple of times around the mud trail including all the sidetrails we went down and back. The trail is a little rocky in sections but not overly so, overall not very technical but enough to make it fun if you ride fast enough. Was really hot the day we rode, bring lots of water and watch out for those mesquite thorns! Signage could be better, blue trail is marked OK (signs are old and falling down) but nothing on the mud trail.

Review: Nice place to get a quick ride in. Most parts are easy and fast flowing. Be careful though if you are really cranking on the gears as there are lots of deer that don't spook easily, as well as joggers and local residents walking their dogs. There are some areas I haven't explored yet, so I continue to come back for more. All in all a very nice ride.

Review: Fast and smooth, couple of small dives/drops, not technical though. This is a pedalers trail! Enjoy the speed, the challenge is what avg. mph you can attain! Small knobs work well here, I like a hardtail 29" over a full susp. 26" here as well. Lot of shade on lower loop. Fun ride, get your spin on.

Review: Fast flowy singletrack. To call this a rocky trail I disagree, however there are some small rocky areas. Good corners, and you can just go out and haul a$$!

Review: All the rain we got recently makes for some muddy creekbeds and lots of overgrown vegetation to mess up your arms and legs on thru some of the thicker trails. Consider brining benadryl gel and an extra towell if you decide to take on the long outter trail that takes you outside the damn.

Review: If you're looking to crank on the high gears and test your cornering abilities this is a great place to go. No hills, but lots of technical cornering if you set a fast pace.

Review: I love this trail. Lots of different trails to pick from. You can ride in so many ways to make it interesting. I love it because there are sections for fast, curvy rides. Well shaded. Try to see if you can follow some of the regulars to show you some of the fun sections if this is your first time.

Review: Rode this for the first time this past weekend, all in all a fun trail if you don't mind rocks and don't feel compelled to climb a lot (which I didn't after riding every bit of Walnut Creek the day before). We took most ofthe blue loop, plus some of the offshoot trails, for a total of about 6mi, all very doable even for my 8yr old. As previous reviews state, there are some very rocky sections to shake you up a bit, and there are plenty of cacti just off trail, so be mindful.

Review: Enter off of Jones Maltsberger. You will pass where the trailhead intersects the road before you reach the parking lot on your left. Head back up to the intersection and turn left on to the trail. After a short ride you will have to take a small section of paved trail to jump back on to the singletrack. Once you are back on the trail it will split; red to the left, blue to the right (on the map, red and green, respectively). Either choice works since they come back together right before crossing Buckhorn Rd. The blue (green) trail takes you past a gate along a stretch of doubletrack that sends you to a nice little downhill and into the woods for a little singletrack action. The red trail is pretty much pure singletrack that brings you passed a spot that you can drop down and hit a few jumps if that’s your thing. Once you cross Buckhorn it is especially important that you stay on the trail, otherwise you might be off the trail fixing a flat. Officially, Mc***er has 9 miles of mapped trails; however, you will find numerous offshoots that leave the total amount of trails to be anyone’s guess (some say 20+ miles total). For example, between the 3 and 4 mile marker you will see a nice little double whoop-dee-do off on a trail that branches to the left. I can’t say where that trail leads, but I can say that the double whoop-dee-do is a trip. Mc***er isn’t exactly the most technical in the area so it’s a great place to get someone hooked on riding. Don’t get me wrong, technical it isn’t, but a pleasure for anyone of any skill level it is.

Review: GOOD PLACE FOR BEGINNER/INTERMEDIATE. EASY CLIMBS/ DESCENTS. WATCH FOR BASEBALLS (SIZED ROCKS). NOT TOO TECHNICAL. ABOUT 1/2 AND 1/2 SHADE CANOPY RIDING. DIRT GUMMY AFTER RECENT RAIN, CLOGS UP COMPONENTS. WATCH FOR JOGGERS. ALL IN ALL, A GOOD RIDE. LOTS OF AREA, GREAT PLACE TO START

Review: This is a great after work trail with some limited technical areas. If you push the pace it can be a very fun ride. Some recreational ballfield construction has cut down on some of the trail but there's still 10+ miles of good trails.

Review: This is the first trail I went on and I thought it was great fun. Over all it was pretty easy there were a few areas where it got a little technical but nothing a first timer could not handle. The next day I tried OP Schnabel Park, I think I should go back and ride Mc***er park a few more times before I take on OP again.

Review: Very FLAT! Guess I will have to put a 46X16 on the single speed when we move. mid week training ride at nigt could be cool. Just a couple of 50 foot climbs.

Review: For an urban park that sits within the City limits, right next to the San Antonio Airport, you couldn't ask for much better. There's even a high spot called "The Vista" that overlooks one of the airport runways. If the planes are taking off or landing, they fly right over you...very cool. The network of trails and switchbacks are built for speed, but there are a few ups and downs that you have to be ready for. If it's been dry (and it has been), the trails get powdery, do watch the berms...they'll just disintegrate as you hit them and you'll be eating dirt. There is loads of wildlife from deer to rattlers. For fun, try a night ride...totally different perspective. Overall, it's a convenient place for riders of all skill levels.
