Description: Highland Trail Loops have three loops for mountain bikers. These trails may be short but both beginners and the more advanced rider can enjoy them. There are some good downhills and a lot of switchbacks for practicing technique. I have also heard you can ride from Lake Crabtree to Umstead State Park. Other activities at the park include picnicking and shelters, fishing, boat rentals, etc.

There are 5 or 6 loops now and a pretty good jump/obstacle park if you're so inclined. I thought it was pretty fun.

This trail is pretty relaxing and has some exciting features. Lot's of soft pine needles on the trail when I was there. Some good introductory climbs as well as switchbacks.

Lots and Lots of new stuff at Crabtree. A nice medium sized pumptrack that is great for beginning pumptrackers. Now there are good sized dirt jumps to try out too! The Park staff has gotten more reasonable about re-opening the park after a rain. There are monthly night rides here for TORC memebers http://www.torc-nc.org Crabtree is great for single speed (as other reviewers have mentioned) I prefer a 32x16 here. Lots of roots and switchbacks to keep it interesting. The skills section is a fun break. These trails can be very crowded on summer weekends. In cool/winter months they are not-so-crowded.

This trail really is an outstanding singlespped track. The gearing on my bike was a little low for the climbs but first time is always a starting point.

Great for beginners or just a warm up, before hitting Rocky Road. Has a training area w/some skinnies, and teeter totter.

Good place for beginners to learn the sport. They maintain it well and have added some very technical man made obstacles, but other than that, the trail is simple. I had fun, but not a keeper for seasoned riders. I recommend jumping over to Beaver Dam or Rocky Road.

Very crowded. There are some cool obstacles ( a down tree you can ride, log jumps, bridges and a teeter totter). The only problem I had was staying on the same loop. They all over lap a bunch of times.

this was a pretty fun beginner trail. I took my wife, brother-in-law,9 yr old son, and 12 yr old nephew (all beginners) and they loved it. it had enough roots and slight elevation changes to be pretty fun for me too. rode it on a saturday, so there were alot of people we passed on the trail. my only issue is that there are about 5 separate loops and we weren't sure if we actually rode the whole thing. Update: Just keep going left and you'll hit the whole thing. Skills section is also a nice addition.

Spent 1 1/2 hours traveling to the park this afternoon only to find the trail CLOSED!, due to wet trail conditions. If your planing the trip you should try contacting the park, phone number 919-460-3390, prior to travel. The park was very nice, a good place to take the family while you ride. Could not see much of the trail except what was directly behind the trail closed sign, but the terrain appeared to be rolling and could have been worth the trip.

This is a great ride, especially combined with Umstead... watch out for the after-work crowds!

I like the scenery and variety of the trail. Also, combining this with the Umsted ride makes for a nice day in the woods.

My favorite trails in the Triangle. Super fast, smooth, rolling, turning, wee! Great for begininers, fast and curvey enough for advanced riders. I get a little bored after an hour of riding them, so take a break at the bench overlooking the lake, or head over to Rocky Road.

Nice trails. Very crowded, though. On weekday evenings, you might have to pass / get passed or otherwise deal w/ 20 other riders. Frequently, this happens suddenly at high speed. Not a lot of obstacles along the trail, but there are some cool obstacles in a little play ground area. They have two long 2x10 (or so) bridges to ride on, and a teeter totter. These were kind of fun, and the bridges are good for practicing balance.

Very nice trails. There are now 5 loops. Well marked, easy to follow. Seem to be ridden in both directions. Suitable for beginners. In a nice park too!!
