Description
From the north loop at the trailhead, the trail
passes through oak and juniper, and one of the
best Ponderosa pine stands in the Forest, with
fir along the upper reaches. It climbs 1,200 feet
over 3 miles through the upper Wolf Creek
drainage to the top of Spruce Mountain and the
Lookout Tower, where there is a picnic table.

Hikers may visit the Lookout when manned.
The Tower offers panoramic views of Prescott
and Granite Mountain to the west, and Mingus
Mountain and the San Francisco Peaks to the
northeast.

The trail turns southwest and follows the South
Spruce Ridge for about 1.6 miles to the junction
with TR 377 (Isabella Trail), which connects to
Walker Road.

TR 307 then begins a long, twisting descent
down the mountain. The final portion bears
northwest, crossing several old mining roads
on the way to completing the loop back to the
Groom Creek trailhead.

Review: Agree with poster below. This is a terrible trail. It is not designed for bikes. The climb up isn't terrible until the last mile where you are faced with basketball sized rocks lining the double track. The views are overrated as well, most of the time you cant see beyond the forest. Stick to the other trails in the area. I believe this and trail 307 are the same trail.

Review: This trail sucks! The climb is lame as hell with huge rock all about and logs in the trail.(Unless you like to hike your bike uphill). I have no problem climbing anything but this was just STUPID! The downhill is nothing to brag about either as there is absolutely no flow to the trail whatsoever and anyone who's ridden a lot of downhill would understand what I mean. DEFINATELY not worth the uphill!!I have raced for many years in cross country as well as downhill and I was not impressed whatsoever with this trail. The downhill has climbs throughout which may not look that way on the graph but once again I cannot express enough the lack of flow with this trail especially going downhill. You think you can just start bombing it and sure enough another small climb here or there. I've spent a lot of years riding in Colorado (mostly Durango) so maybe I'm spoiled...who knows but I wouldn't recommend this trail to anyone I have ridden with. I give this trail a 1 at most 1.5!!!This trail is obviously made for horses!!

Similar Trail: Dry Fork In Durango,CO if you have the chance!!Awesome strenous climb with an even longer fast downhill!!

Review: Ok, I had slight trouble finding this but i eventully did. I did not even attempt the up hill. We started at the top and bombed down the amazing downhill. The beginning of the downhill is full of rocks, roots and about foot high ledges. There is one easy climb in the middle the the end is super smooth windy single track that you can fly through. If you like going down hill this is a must ride!!!

Review: Down is awesome, up is STUPID. I recommend locking the bike at the top, driving down & leaving the vehicle, then doing the nice hike up/break/ride down. You don't want to hike up that thing with a bike & I certainly couldn't ride up it (though I'm a beginner)....basically don't leave your vehicle at the top - big mistake. But down really was excellent!

Review: so I have ridden this trail no less than 50 times in every way-combo possible and I am the biggest fan of skiping the hell climb/ hike-a-bike on the 3.5 mi side and just climbing up the south spruce side and taking either the Issabella back around or go all the way to the top and then down the road to the Watershed take off and ride that back to senator hwy. if your not tired yet shoot across senator to the trail that goes down school house and comes out on white spar but then you will most likely want a ride back up to the 307 trail head. just my 2 cents.

Review: Also known as Spruce Mtn. Trail or #307. Climb is HELL if you go up the 3 1/2 mile side. Downhill is fun though, full boing recomended as there are some rubble infested sections. All in all a fun ride though.

Similar Trail: #297, #305 or Granite Basin Loops
