The Green Belt Trail system is composed of three short trails: the Wally Wickander Memorial Trail (1.48 miles), the Ward Cr. Rd. Trail (1.81 miles) and the East Avenue Trail (1.72 Miles). You can access the trail system from a number of places, but one of the best routes to get the full experience would be to begin in Memorial Park near the Hayward Plunge (one of the localsí names for this route) swimming pool. Ride up the Wally Wickander trail, up Ward Creek, and come down East Avenue. Alternatively, you can ride up the road to avoid the steep climbs on the trail.
The trail is mostly doubletrack, with some singletrack sections thrown in. It is very steep in places, especially up towards the top: be prepared to do some hike-a-bike. The trail follows several different creeks and is hidden down below the tree canopy in the cool shade! This is an urban trail, and it definitely feels like it.
Keep your eyes open for some jumps and berms on the way back down East Avenue Trail!
