Description: This trail is tough. It's not fun. If you are in excellent shape and enjoy a lot of climbing and tight turns where you almost fall down on your bike, then maybe you will enjoy it. There are maybe 5 sections where you can move under the power of momentum for more than 3 or 4 seconds and you had better watch out on those parts. There always seems to be a tree trunk, two trees about a foot apart or a nasty turn that goes up, to the left and behind while also climbing an off camber hill at the end of any fast spot. Don't expect more than an 8 MPH average, and that's if you're in excellent shape and are considered a mountain bike guru by all of your friends. Not for beginners, families or people lacking strength or stamina. The average weekend warrior will probably not like this trail much either. Having said all that, if you want to gain skills on your bike and beat yourself into shape, this is an excellent trail.

Definitely a work out. Short steep hills. Little/no 'rollers'. Always going up or down. Relatively no flat sections. I'm 53 and can ride the whole trail but I have a lot of woods dirt bike riding experience that helps a lot. Very, very good workout! Trails seemed very well 'groomed' to me.

I agree that this trail is not a lot of fun. You will spend half of your time climbing with no reward. The trail is relatively well groomed. There are tons of corners to practice maintaining your speed. I also encountered several downhill corners that I typically haven’t seen at other trails in the area. There are a few large dips in one section close to the end. I was gassed by the time I got there but was glad to finally mix it up a little. Overall this is a respectable but demanding trail.

I think this trail is awesome. I am a novice and I didn't have any trouble except for breathing. Great for building cardio. I like the bike wash station and the BMX track.

This trail is NOTHING like the description!!! It is MUCH better groomed. There are probably around 7 or so miles of trails and they are maintained by the Jackson Spokes. The trails are tight and windy. There really isn't that much space in the park, but the designers did a great job of doubling back the trail with a number of switchbacks. Yet, they still were able to allow riders to open up a bit and get some momentum. There are a few dips and a couple of man-mades but not much. Mostly just fun windy singletrack. I was here on a VERY sunny Friday afternoon and not a soul. A great trail for the area considering not much around! Oh, and don't forget to play on the BMX track next to the softball field!

The trail at Fred Young Park is a great trail for advanced mountain bikers. It is part of the TN state championship series. For more info try www.bicyclingaroundjackson.com.
