Description: On the right side (west) over the bridge, it's fairly innocuous. About a mile of trail, fairly flat. Some log-overs, mud, small creek crossings, riding between Chester Creek and the old Penn Central railroad. On the left (east) over the bridge it's a lot more interesting. 3.5 miles of trail that lead up a steep hillside that was part of an old limestone quarry. Side trails break off from the main trail forming the network. Big log-overs, (some close to two feet with no build-up), steep drops/climbs, rock gardens. Very important for beginners considering this trail: there are NO RIDE-AROUNDS at most of the obstacles and techy spots. Crashes are inevitable if your skills are weak. Trails are fairly well marked, and it's impossible to get lost here. If you're unsure of where you are, work your way downhill and follow the creekside trails back to Locksley Road. This is not a good summer trail. In late spring briars start to heavilly overgrow the trails, and ticks are everywhere. Prepare accordingly...

didn't use my GPS to find it...i was close...re-googled it and saw i just didn't go far enough to the bridge. yes, park in the gravel by the tracks (as suggested by the other reviewer). this was just an exploratory ride (about 5 miles of checking off-shoots and then back to 'main' trails). one side of the tracks is a technical singletrack with plenty of roots and rocks...it keeps switching up to the tracks but there are plenty of re-entry points and other alternate crisscross off-shoots. across the tracks, about 1/4 mile or less, the trail goes straight up, winds around, a big rooty/loggy ascent and then there it is, a somewhat maintained (and heavily used/in-disrepair freeride area that looks like bmx'rs and maybe even motorcross folks have been (ab)using... a sign near the road says NO motor vehicles, but looks like there are plenty of moto tracks in evidence. sad. i assume this will be rated 4-5 easy, but from what i saw (and surprising i didn't see a soul there during labor day weekend!), i have to give this a three for the moment. not a place to go alone. in case of injuries or...rednecks on petroleum-based machines* Review edited 9/6/2009* Review edited 9/6/2009* Review edited 9/6/2009* Review edited 9/8/2009

Similar Trail: Middle Run is much more groomed and biker-friendly. feels safer (not in terms of terrain, but in not being in the complete boondocks). plenty of folks could help you if needed. Brandywine State Park/Woodlawn Nature Preserve. very similar. again, though, more populated and thus safer if help is needed.

Best trail I have ridden so far. It was hard to find the trail head but its a great trail with many technical challenges. Roots and rocks are abundant. Trail has very little compromise--its either short steeps or winding slowly elevating singletrack. I consider myself intermediate, and even some is too challenging to attempt while alone as I am unfamiliar with PA. I definitely cant wait to do the trail again, so many different offshoots to keep it exciting and varied the whole ride. Only problem is big logs that are hard to cross and overgrown brush. Definitely reccommend to anyone looking for a fun ride!! Park at pump house or gravel by railroad tracks. Trail head is marked by a sign hidden in woods, about .2 or .3 miles south of Railroad crossing. Its an old bridge accessed on the left when heading North from the pumphouse. Very rocky

Similar Trail: Havnt ridden anything similar as of this point
