Description: Blue Heron is the newest singletrack in Greensboro! The Greensboro Fat Tire Society has been working hard constructing Blue Heron since spring of 2009. The trail head is directly across the street from the end of Reedy Fork trail and can be as an extension of Reedy Fork by simply crossing the street. Trail construction should be complete by the winter of 2009.

The trail starts off meandering by the shore line of beautiful Lake Townsend. There is plenty of variety too as the trail leads you out of the woods for multiple power line crossings. Blue Heron flows great and is relatively easy for any rider to tackle. A few sections have gullies and dips that are fun to blast through and out of.

One way Blue Heron is about 3 miles, so if you go out and back you will get right at 6 miles in.

Can be combined with Wild Turkey from just the other side of the dam. Jump on Reedy Fork shot straight across at trail's end onto Blue Heron then do all three back to the Bur-Mil Greenway. We usually park at Owl's Roost. Good flow with little climbing. Enough gullies to get some air time.

Rode this trail today after riding the Reedy Fork Trail. First time riding and I will definitely be coming back. Some very fun sections of back to back rollers. Not a whole lot of elevation change but still enough roots and tight turns to keep you thinking. Not an overall challenging trail but fun none the less.

I rode this trail on Monday (visiting from Indiana) and it was awesome. I love trails like this. Amazing speed and flow without much elevation. Great for beginners because its not too technical and there is very little climbing to speak of. I wish I could ride this trail once a week. Greensboro, you have a real gem here. Enjoy.

Blue Heron is brand new so many parts are still being burned in, but the trail is firming up quickly. No climbing to speak of as the topography next to the lake is pretty flat but what it lacks in elevation it makes up in fast flow. This is a beautiful ride along the shores of Lake Townsend with solitude and dense forest. The trail is only 3 miles one way, but it works great as an extension to Reedy Fork trail. If riding Reedy Fork, when you get to the end on Church Street, just cross the street to pick up the Blue Heron trailhead.
