Description: Blue Heron is the newest singletrack in Greensboro! The Greensboro Fat Tire Society has been working hard constructing Blue Heron since spring of 2009. The trail head is directly across the street from the end of Reedy Fork trail and can be as an extension of Reedy Fork by simply crossing the street. Trail construction should be complete by the winter of 2009.

The trail starts off meandering by the shore line of beautiful Lake Townsend. There is plenty of variety too as the trail leads you out of the woods for multiple power line crossings. Blue Heron flows great and is relatively easy for any rider to tackle. A few sections have gullies and dips that are fun to blast through and out of.

One way Blue Heron is about 3 miles, so if you go out and back you will get right at 6 miles in.

Blue Heron is brand new so many parts are still being burned in, but the trail is firming up quickly. No climbing to speak of as the topography next to the lake is pretty flat but what it lacks in elevation it makes up in fast flow. This is a beautiful ride along the shores of Lake Townsend with solitude and dense forest. The trail is only 3 miles one way, but it works great as an extension to Reedy Fork trail. If riding Reedy Fork, when you get to the end on Church Street, just cross the street to pick up the Blue Heron trailhead.
