Mountain Biking Mala Compra

****   Add a review
#19 of 289 mountain bike trails in Florida
#758 in the world

Mostly intermediate trail, with a few red sections towards the middle of the trail. The trail has great canopy throughout and all hardpack, even in the middle of Florida's brutal summer. The trail contains some pretty good short technical, challenging climbs followed by abrupt, shifty descents. You'll find a few little bridges over water and some really sweet ridge line sections with a couple areas leaving no margin for error. Lots of roots towards the end of the trail, almost too much, a bit redundant after a while. The trail is, for the most part, well marked, but a few areas are bit confusing and you may need to stop and think for a second.

Getting there
About 10 miles North of route 100 and 3 miles North of Palm Coast Parkway on A1A. Palm Coast Parkway has a toll bridge to get to beachside, so if you're coming from South, get off at 100 to avoid toll. Park on the West side of A1A in the Bings Landing/Mala Compra Plantation parking lot. Cross A1A towards the South end of the parking lot, you'll see the marked cross walk. You'll see the brown Mala Compra sign right on A1A. Heading East into the woods, pass the sign about 50 yards. The trail entrance will be on the right hand side, next to a black chain link fence (check out photo album.)

Rider questions

Q: Was there damage from Hurricane Matthew? Are the trails open? Expecting to visit from out of state soon.
A: The trail was mostly clear for me. There was 2 spots that were blocked off by fallen tree, but they were just small side paths, you don't really miss anything. There was one spot that was destroyed on the main path, but someone was fixing it when I rode.
