Description: A 9.5 mile trail that goes along the lakeshore to the Petersburg camping area. It is technical in some areas but mostly for novice-intermediate riders. I have been riding fior 10 years and use it for speed work. You can easily get an average speed of 10-11 mph.

We camped at St. Petersburg campground during a trip to FATS and was pleasantly surprised to stumble across Bartram. Bartram is the baby brother to FATS, very fast and flowy. Bartram, however, is never ending AND has better scenery with the trail following the fingers around the lake. Great ride and right at the campsite...can't beat that!

Hit this trail today for a short ride from Lake Springs to Petersburg very enjoyable ride, it was as if I was the only one on the trail even though there were other vehicles in parking lot. great ride.

Rode this trail at the end of an epic 80mile singletrack weekend as a 'cooldown' ride. It is mostly flat and rolly with a few roots and humps for jumps. Very fast in some places. You can maintain a steady HR for almost 2hrs if you ride it out and back...it's no FATS, but an impressive trail for a State Park with phenominal views and a lake to cool off in post ride. Like it!

I was redirected to this trail after arriving at FATS for the second time to find out that it was closed. Should have checked the trail status before heading out there, but it's not to often that I get to SC. The trail was supprisingly nice. It was very smooth with almost no roots or rocks. Not very challenging though. Which in the conditions that I was in was good. It seems to be very well mantained, and it is a fun place to ride if your camping on the lake. The lake view scenery is great. I would ride again if in the area.

The section between West Dam & Petersburg Park is 6.5 miles and is great for beginners, even though between West Dam and Lake Springs is a little rocky. The other section of the trail, from Petersburg to Wild Wood is about 12 miles if you go all the way to Washington Rd, and is intermediate. It has a lot of places to catch some air as well as some fairly big dips. When going through Wild Wood, you ride some fire roads for a little while but it goes back to single track. The last mile of the trail(right before you get to Washington Rd) is a little rough and doesn't flow too well, but it is still fun. Both sections have great views of the lake!

Although the trail is flat for the most part, it flows pretty well and can be ridden fast. Good views of the lake in winter and plenty of opportunities to take a dip in the summer. Camp at Petersburg and ride in either direction for miles of singletrack.

Bartram Trail is about 20 miles one way from West Dam recreation area to Wildwood park. Access parking can be at West Dam, Lake Springs, Petersburg Campground and Keg Creek trail head on Washington Rd. The section between West Dam and Petersburg is beginner friendly (6.5 miles one way) There is a 3 mile loop branching off near Lake Springs. The new section between Petersburg to Wildwood is more intermidiate because of the distance also the section that goes through Wildwood park after is a combination of dirt roads (horse trail) and hand cut trail which is rough. Trails ends on Washington Rd across from Keg Creek (9 mile loop) Good possibilities of long distance riding using Bartram, Keg Creek and with 3 miles of road Mistletoe State Park. Bartram has excellent views of Lake Thurman.

Did this a few days ago. On the link up from Keg Creek (just off HWY) there are a lot of roots, holes. I wasn't real impressed. Most of the trail is wide enough for ATV and horse back with a few spots for jumps.

Similar Trail: Keg Creek is right across the street.

If you park in the Petersburg parking lot, you can access the new 9.5 miles of intermediate trail that was recently put in place as well as the old 6 miles of beginner trail that runs to the West dam. Both are out and back trails so you could put some good milage together by riding them both ways. I only got a chance to ride the new intermediate stuff. Other than the lack of real elevation change it's still keeps you on your toes with roots, dips, twists, and rock gardens.

This is definitely not 4.5 miles out and 4.5 miles back. I had already had a long couple of days, and rode 6.5 miles out (to the petersberg campground) and there was still trail left. Ended up turning around and riding the 6.5 back for a 13 mile ride. So there was more trail on the end of that, as well as 2 tributary trails branching off of it. I'd say all told, 20+ miles is a better estimate. however, the trail is very well maintained. Really easy, but fast and flowy. Relatively flat.

Fun trail! Great for beginners. Wonderful views of the lake and occasional bathrooms and areas to refill water bottles. Mostly easy with a few climbs and rock gardens but they're intermittent.
