Description: Although flat and easy, the 10.5-mile, out-and-back West Ashley Greenway is a gem of a trail in the southwest part of Charleston. This 100-foot wide, mostly hard-packed dirt corridor is a pleasant greenway that starts at a residential and commercial area, then parallels US 17 past neighborhoods, schools, parks, and a marsh before reaching Johns Island and the turn-around point.

The trail is basically a running trail on grass along a river dike. Nice for a leisurely stroll

The West Ashley Greenway is essentially a flat rail-trail that once you leave the residential area from the starting point at the South Windermere Shopping Center you'll find the scenery more enjoyable as you past through the open marshlands. Great trail for beginners, families w/ kids & for those who just want to go out & blast away the miles!
