Mountain Biking Van Michael Trail

*****   Add a review
#17 of 406 mountain bike trails in Georgia
#340 in the world

The Van Michael Trail is a 3.9 mile directional trail that changes with the day of the week. Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays are counter clockwise. The entrance to Van Michael on these days is located on the Mosquito Flats beginners trail. On Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday the trail entrance is on the Mosquito Bites beginners trail. Van Michael is listed as advanced difficulty but its more due to the aerobic challenge rather than technical challenge. The majority of the trail is smooth but you will encounter roots and several rock sections. This trail is constantly up and down and twisty the entire way.

Rider questions

Q: I'm hoping to ride Blankets Creek later this year. What is the best direction to ride VMT for the most DH fun?
A: Also check out quehl holler

Q: Why is the back section of the VMT closed off? Why isn't there a sign saying so @ the trailhead?
A: A portion of the VMT is closed due to instability at "Kevorkian pass." It's estimated about $15K worth of work will need to be done to shore up this section. Rest assured, however, that once Kevorkian Pass is stabilized it will be as hair raising as ever. (Van Michael pun not intended.) Not sure why there are no signs at the trailhead. Perhaps they want to keep curious people out of the area.
