TRAIL REVIEWS   review this trail

I haven't ridden this trail since last summer, but it was fun to ride. Not much elevation change, which is good if you don't like climbs, but terrible if you love downhill sections. You can still pick up a good amount of speed on the flat sections though. The "Playground" section has some pretty cool bridges/skinnies/jumps for advanced riders. Overall, a pretty fun ride, but there are definitely better places in the area.

I am the Vice President of the University sponsored Trails to Tarmac Biking Club. I presonally ride this trail at the least 2 times a week. This is a great trail for all skill level riders. There are some very tight sections with tree's just wide enough to fit your handle bars though then there are straight flat sections where you can pick up some great speed. There is maybe 40 feet of elevation change through-out the entire trail. Very few climbs and decents, but what the trail lacks in elevation is makes up for in twisting turns and rough terrain that will test your bike control and wheel placement. This trail is mostly composed of hard packed soil that is often covered with pine straw added an interesting element of surprise on some of those hard turns. There is very little sand on the main trails, however, the main "lead in" which allows for access to about 4 different parts of the trails is a sandy mess. This trail gets quite a bit of traffic. Every time I ride there are are at the least 2 other people on the trails and this is on weekday afternoons. Overall this is a great trail for pretty much anyone looking for a nice leisure ride or a quick blast in the woods. http://www.flickr.com/photos/29300398@N06/sets/72157622528638715/ Here is my flicker album featuring "The Playground" and the best map available for the trails (not the best). I am currently trying to log as many of the trails as I can with my GPS. Hope to see you out there and Happy Riding. If you have any questions you can email me at judsonmeherg@mindspring.com

I ride this trail regularly. I start at the end of Hillcrest past Old Shell, its next to the soccer / bus barn area. The trails are mostly flat and narrow single tracks with very little technical stuff unless it has been raining or some trees have come down. You can go fast on some of the sections and its a good ride. There are some sandy and root sections, but the trail holds up well even after rain.

This is an excellent trail for everyone. Now it's up to about 10.5 miles of mostly flat, packed dirt, some roots, well groomed singletrack. I have been riding this trail for years, recently moved to northern GA, but still have a brother in school at USA. I last rode this in early July 2006. The trail was in great shape. Man, you can fly on this thing. My average speed for the whole 10 miles was usually around 10 to 12.5 mph depending on how hot it was, who I was riding with or if I'd eaten breakfast. What's so good about this trail is that my 8 year old can ride the whole thing on his 6speed specialized hot rock. My 4 year old can ride 5 miles (the interior flat flat flat stuff) of it on his little 16" Matt Hoffman Bmx bike. This IS my wife's favorite trail, she's even mentioned that she wished we had something like this in northern GA. I heard rumor that the University was going to help maintain and ensure access because the XC runners have started to train on this trail. It's such a good asset, I think the school should have a mtb class or something like that.

I lived blocks from these trails for 1 yr and I had a great time riding the fast-paced single track snake trails with my dog (Lisa-Lu). The college was adding a new wing and had started to use large tracks of land so I'm not sure what is left but these trails were a favorite.
