Description: Currently, 3 loops of varying difficulty amounting to 12 miles of riding. Loops are all beginner to intermediate in difficulty. Room to expand on the north side of the river will probably produce one last loop. Future plans also include connecting these trails to Blankets Creek for over 30 miles of continuous singletrack riding.

Just rode it this morning.... Loved it! Lots of ups and downs to keep you pumping. If you get some speed on the downhills, you can ease your climb. If you get scared, you'll have to work hard!!! couple of technical places where you have to climb some rocks

I'm enjoying this trail system more and more each time I go. As noted below, it isn't setup to be flowy, and when you accept that, its actually quite nice. (If you want flow, you can drive a couple miles to Blankets). What it does offer is a workout since there are very few places to catch your breath. Its climb and drop with hard braking in many spots. Expect an 'aerobic rollercoaster' and you'll be pleased. I am happy that this isn't just a Blankets re-dux, design wise. Its great that its so close that you can ride either trail system first and then hop in the car and hit the other in roughly 10 minutes. The big downside to this trail is in mid summer. Its can be a sauna inside the thick woods on a 95 degree day.

Similar Trail: Due to a stone's throw away, Blankets Creek makes a perfect combo with Taylor Randahl if you are looking for roughly 25 miles of fresh ride.

Both the Explorer trail and Avalanche trails are great trails. Offers a nice change of pace if you are used to riding blankets creek all the time.

I've ridden all the trails at Olde Rope Mill a few times and I'm still trying to decide if I like it. The scenery is very nice with some views of the river. The entirety of the system is singletrack and well maintained. There are a few technical features but nothing that requires beyond intermediate rider skill. My problem with it is the uneven pace of much of the system. There are a lot of short, rapid descents that are immediately followed by an equivalent climb. There are only a few sections that I feel like have any real "flow" to them for more than 150 feet. I've only ever ridden in the Sunday direction, so perhaps I would feel differently riding the opposite. It is, however, a pretty good leg workout for a relatively short loop.

This is about the new Explorer Trail at Olde Rope Mill Park. The clarify its location, it is up the gravel road that starts at the end of the parking lot where the portable toilet is and goes up under the I-575 highway bridge. I've ridden it twice now. I'm over 50 but in shape and a competent, if not expert, mountain biker. This trail is fairly easy and I suppose experienced riders would call it a beginner trail but that doesn't mean it's not fun. Au contraire, it's a great mix of climbs and downhills and a perfect warmup as other riders have noted. Difficulty-wise it slots in nicely between Mosquito Bite at Blankets Creek and the very nice set of other Taylor Randahl trails there at Olde Rope Mill Park. Word of caution - there's a section where the trail goes along the river and the dropoff is pretty high and steep. You'll want to be focused there. Back at the park itself, if you do venture across the foot bridge, you can turn right to see the ruins of the mill and the old water chute that powered it. These are not "official" bike trails and unless you're in that video they always play at Canyons Burger you'll have to walk past a couple of obstacles (deep ditch, large rocks) but you can then continue riding along the river. Watch for short sections of loose sandy dirt, it can be unpleasant if you hit it unexpectedly. I went back as far as the big railroad trestle before turning back. It's flat and easy but a fun and scenic ride. (You can Google the park and check out the trail & trestle on satellite view.) All and all, the Taylor Randahl trails and Olde Rope Mill Park are terrific and always a great ride. Thanks to SORBA Woodstock and the City of Woodstock Parks Department for this fantastic biking destination.* Review edited 4/13/2012* Review edited 4/13/2012

I ride this trail 1-2's a week. I am fortunate that a trail of this quality is 2 miles from my house. It has lots of flowing section and test your technical riding in the pines. The new 2 mile section under the bridge makes for a great warm up lap. Never get tired of this track. A good change up from Blankets Creek.

The avalanche trail is fun with a bunch of rollers. Up and down. The new trail is still rough but has excellent flow and will smooth out. It is up the gravel road, not across the bridge.

Good trails to hit after work if Blankets Creek is crowded. Good for being in the city. if your near woodstock GA then stop in for a ride.

There are 3 loops totaling 10 km. All singletrack. There are a few wooden bridges with hand rails. On Sat-Tue-Thur the trail must be ridden in the counter-clockwise direction. At the beginning there is a steep hill, so I don't recommend Saturdays for beginner riders. Don't let this deter you. This trail is awesome! Part of it feels like you are riding along on a sine wave! There are some small ravines that the trail traverses. Other parts have some tight spots winding through trees. There are also a lot of switchbacks in some sections.

Sweet little trail. Reasonably smooth and flowy. Great trail when you don"t have time for Blankets.

This is a fun trail located right next to Blankets Creek. It's got that classic IMBA/SORBA smooth swoop and flow. The trail traverses the hillsides and over and over again it drops down into big ravines and comes rocketing straight backup the other side. These sections are generally straight as an arrow, so you can just blast through them at high speed! There are a couple of cool, rocky exposed areas, but those are few and far between. All in all, a great little trail! Beginner/Intermediate difficulty.

This trail is made up of 3 loops "chain-linked" together, so you can ride the trail as a 1.5 mile, 3.75 mile, or 6.25 mile loop. Fun trail that is different than it's big brother, Blanket's Creek. Lots of turns and roller coaster type dips that get the adrenaline pumping. Ride Sunday, Monday, Wednesday, or Friday (clockwise) for the best experience. Nice scenery next to the Little River. Perfect trail if you are short on time and need a quickie.

I have been riding this trail over the past several weeks while attempting to not compare it to Blankets Creek. Once I removed the comparison from my mind, I was able to accurately assess this trail system. The result, I like it mostly because it is a different flavor than Blankets specifically the lack of obstacles and a lack of flow. I have ridden every inch of this trail and overall it does not provide the rider the ability to establish a steady flow due to the constant ups and downs along with quick descends immediately followed by a tight switchback (loops 1 and 2). Loop 3 is a bit more open and provides a better flow allowing you pick up some decent speed. In my option, starting to the left (Sun, M, W and Fri) is a better (more fun) ride. If you like fast flowy singletrack, you wont get it here. It you want to work on your endurance, tight corning and climbing skills, it is a great training ground. BTW, it is important to state that I am competitive racer, riding a 29er with a tubeless set up so my riding experience may be different than others.

Finally got over to Taylor Randal today to check it out. Doesn't matter which direction the start is uphill both ways. Might want to "warm up" in parking. Trail IS singletrack and laid out well. It is important to remember if you are going downhill without a climb there is a climb coming. No serious can't do it climbs but stay ready. It was over 80 degrees for the first time this year. Take plenty of water if you do all three loops. I did the three loops but doing two would have been more pleasant. Overall the trails are awesome and well done and was glad to help with the break in. Will go back for sure.

Rode this trail today with a friend new to mtn biking. the trail starts climbing immediately!!! Pretty tough way to start. You basically climb up one side of the ridge and down the other. You are supposed to ride one certain days and one way another day. We were told by a guy we talked to in the parking lot. It was pretty tight and technical. It is also very new (was told about 8 months old) there are 3 loops we rode 2 of those loops. It is definitely intermediate! Its not technical no logs and stuff more a lot of riding the brakes.

Fun 6 mile ish intermediate trail. There are 3 loops that double back on to each other. Fun. It'd be great to see this connect to blankets.

Pretty good system of loops with a variety of terrain and obstacles for an urban network system. Warning: I was there on a nice weekend and there were 3 groups of hikers for every rider and most had 2-3 year old kids, I had to de-bike 4 or 5 times because there were invariably going the same direction as the bikers and were always standing around behind a tight turn. Hopefully this situation will improve once the paved walking path is extended.

rode here for the first time a few weeks ago, counter clockwise - it is a change of pace from Blankets - not as crowded & fewer of those irritating roots and rocks... but the short climbs combined with the short downhill that always seem to end in a sharp turn became a chore... hopefully as the trail matures the turns will widen, or the design of the additional mileage won't be as tight.

they lengthened the trail a good distance and another trail off to the side loops around towards the old train tressle. once the dirt packs it will be sweet! good job sorba. still seems short compared to north georgia riding.

Not a bad quick ride in the area only rode about 3 mi. but hopefully more will be open soon. Pretty tight and twisty, short steep climbs and short downhills. Not as worn and rooty as blankets but not as flowy either. Still needs work but has potential to be very nice.

As a nOOb with only about 6 weeks experience, this trail (and record GA June heat) kicked my b*** from a cardio standpoint. Looking forward to going at it again when my conditioning is better because it was a wild ride. Lots of quick changes - up/down, left/right - always something going on here. It's still a new trail that needs some seasoning but it's designed for racing so I found it to be a challenging and fun ride. Smoother than Dwelling at Blankets.

Rode the "Avalanche" trail today as a quick warm up before heading over to Blankets Creek to meet another rider. About 3 miles of the 5 mile loop are currently open for riding and the rest should be open shortly. It's not the fastest trail but still a fun warm up loop that can be run several times for a good workout. Very twisty and punchy trail with lots of quick ups and downs.Reminded me a lot of sections of Ft Yargo. No long climbs and unfortunately also no long downhills but speed can still be found. Trails are directional by day; clockwise Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday. Can't wait until they finish the initial loop and start on the advanced trail on the north side of the river. Once this is linked up to Blanket's Creek it going to be an epic ride.
