Description: This is a Virginia State Park, website here: http://www.dcr.state.va.us/parks/pocahont.htm This park is a nicely managed state park similar to Yorktown State Park (also a Virginia State Park). There are trails for all levels, but none are really that hard. The scenery is typical Eastern Virginia woodland. I have never failed to see deer. Once I saw an American Bald Eagle. This is a good park to learn and to get some exercise. I have gone here with my children since they were 4. The singletrack difficulty is indicated in a fashion similar to ski slopes. The easy trail is the longest. The hardest trail is not that much harder than the easiest.

As others have stated there is a lot of variety here, and for that reason is my go to trail when I'm in the area. There is a lot of easy to intermediate flowing trail, and then there is the red, actually two reds. One advanced and the other known as Little WVA (experts only). As of 10-08-11 Little WVA was still closed do to hurricane damage, everything else was open.

First off, I don't know why it's listed on Singletracks as only 10 miles of trails. I think all total there are about 50 miles of trails. The lake loop is 11 miles, and the red, blue, and green loop come up to 10 miles. And those are just the trails reserved for biking. Overall they are very well maintained. The lake loop has a great flow to it. I have yet to try the Advanced section but that's the next challenge. What I have seen offers something for everyone, and it is definitely a great place for a beginner to learn and build confidence, yet still has a lot to offer the intermediate and advanced. Many thanks goes out to the volunteers.

Good mileage, not something that will kill you.

I can get on this trail from my house. I prefer lakeview (also in the park) to the older loops, but definitely worth checking out. There are some wicked dips on the advanced that are not for the faint of hear, but they can be easily bypassed. There's lots of variety(fire road, green, blue, and red) and its a great park.

Lots of variety and miles of trails...well maintained too. $5.00 entrance fee is well worth it.

Similar Trail: Poor Farm has some similarities but is not as well maintained and is much smaller.

Trail? You mean TRAIL(S)... Plural. I finally had a chance to get down to Pocahontas State Park today (5/16/10) and rode some of the trails, even though I've been here before. There is something for everybody here. The place is MASSIVE!!! There are trails of every category, in all directions, looping around this way, that way, connecting to this trail, etc.. Studying the state park map is a big help too. Some of the trails are doublewide gravel/sand/dirt trails that you could bring your 12 yr old daughter on and not worry. Then again some of the other trails (i.e. watch for the signs) are pure single track and offer a wide variety of challenges. In a nutshell: This place is a blast!!!! :-)

Similar Trail: Um, I'm not sure, do to the wide variety of trails at Pocahontas. I do know that this place totally blows away Deep Run and Rockwood parks!!

I ride these trails several times weekly along with the lakeview trails. There is something for everybody from beginners to experts. My favorite trail is the double red. If you ride all the trails together there is at least 25 miles worth of riding.

Rode the green, blue, red, and double red trails. Started to ride the lakeview trails but ran out of gas. Nothing super technical about this place but still a lot of fun. This would be a great place for those getting started in mountain biking. The park is pretty big, definitely worth going back to ride again. Kudos to those who built and maintain the trails!

I ride this trail quite often with my fiance. She is just getting into the sport and enjoys the green and blue trails. Blue and Red are fun, and you should definitely try the Lakeview trails as well. Good spot for riders of ALL levels, you can find almost anything here.

Been a while since I have ridden these trails...and there has been a ton of work put into this park. The Double Red trail (access a little over 2 miles into the blue trail) is amazing, very technical and is a ton of fun...just be careful its a challenge.

Similar Trail: Northbank park

Great Ride. I tested the green and blue trails in the MTB section, which were a lot of fun. there are technical parts but all have ride arounds. which is great for the intermediate rider who is trying to work on the log jumps etc.

These are some of the best trails in the Richmond area and there is something for every skill level!

rode the green, red, double red, and the blue. the blue was fun but the red is someone's love affair with logs and creeks. we call stacked logs "speed bumps" where I'm from. Beautiful scenery. Next time I'll take my 5yr old nephew to the old mill instead.

Road the blue, red and double red. The blue was a good work out, the red was awsome the half pipe section is sweet and the double red is very challenging (man made and natural). Overall a great ride.

Road this set of trails and was groving on the nice sweepers and way things flowed. IT got this this 45 year old blood a moving... I'd recommend it to any soul rider, or small group outting. Hammer heads might need to find something more risky but it is kickass in my book

Similar Trail: not from around here...

There are actually 10+ miles of Mountain Bike Trails in the woods. The 5 miles referred to above is the OLD MILL ROAD trail, which is for the family. The trails can be a lot of fun out here and are none are too difficult for beginners but can still be an intermediate challege too. The long blue is a good aerobic workout with lots of up and down hills. The red is tons of fun with some large woops sections and a few good jumps. The double red has some man made obsticles that can present a fun challenge too.

Similar Trail: Poor Farm but more spread out and more variation in skill level.
