The Pallisade is a very strong intermediate to expert level trail, due to the amount of steep climbs, switchbacks, and rock gardens. The trail is 100% singletrack, starting in South Fork and climbing up near the Wheeler Geological area. You can climb this trail for an out and back (7 miles one way, 14 miles out and back), or shuttle to the top for pure downhill fun!

Lower trailhead located in South Fork just behind the Rio Grande Club property at the Alder Guard station (2 miles up the Alder Creek forest road which is located right next to the golf course). The lower trailhead is called "Alder Bench trail", but it soon becomes the Pallisade trail without you even noticing! Upper trailhead located on Forest Road 610 accessible from Pool Table Road.
