Description
The Greeneway meanders throughout the City and many of its neighborhoods. The general public may access the Greeneway at three locations. The Western Terminus is located at Pisgah Road just off Five Notch Road. Limited parking is available at this location. Access is also available toward the Greeneway's Eastern Terminus by following Riverside Boulevard until you reach the entrance to the River Golf Club on one side and the Greeneway Tunnel on the other. Finally, the Greeneway may be accessed at Riverview Park, 101 Riverview Park Drive. This location is the approximate middle section of the Greeneway which actually travels under the main entrance to the Riverview Park Activities Center. Adequate parking is available at both the Eastern Terminus and Riverview Park. Phase I of the Greeneway, 3.3 miles, runs from the Georgia Avenue Bridge to Martintown Road. Phase II, another 1.5 miles, extends the Greeneway to its current western terminus at Pisgah Road.Phase IV, completed in 2000, extended the Greeneway another 0.5 miles east from the Georgia Avenue Bridge to the Clubhouse at the RiverClub Golf Course. Construction is currently underway on an extension of the Greeneway into the North Augusta Riverfront. The 1.5 mile extension will fork off the existing trail near Crystal Lake, follow Crystal Creek through the woods to the Savannah River, meander along the riverbank to the Georgia Avenue Bridge, and then return to connect with the Greeneway tunnel at Riverside Boulevard.

Review: Completely paved trail with great shade. A few cool bridges to cross. Great place for the family. Multi users using the trail.

Review: This is a great trail for getting out with the family towing the little ones around in the trailer. Flat wide and paved it runs through the riverview park rec area in North Augusta. With a quick ride across the 13th street bridge and a short ride through downtown Augusta you can link up with the Aug canal.

Review: First of all let me start off by saying that this is a paved bike path, not singletrack. Having recently ridden this greenway for the first time I now understand why it has garnered its status as a National Recreation Trail. My wife and two boys (6 and 2 yo) parked at Riverview Park before we began our exploration. BTW, Riverview Park appears to be a first class facility w/ multiple athletic fields/courts, gymnasium, restrooms/picnic areas and ample parking. Back to the subject of the trail. The trail is a smooth riding piece of art that is easy to follow. There is a slight grade from the Riverview Park to the Pisgah Rd. terminus which was hardly noticeable to me while pulling my 2 yo in his trailer. This area has plenty of shade and the few neighborhoods it passes appear to be quite pleasant. There are water fountains along the route to quench your thirst along w/ some benches to rest your legs if so inclined. If traveling in the opposite direction from Riverview Park you'll find abundant wildlife as you pass by forests and wetlands en route to the Savannah River. This area of the trail is simply beautiful as it passes by the river and the beautiful homes and gardens that surround it. This is a first class trail that is a great place for exercise, sight-seeing or quality time w/ the family. I highly recommend it!

Review: You can ride this trail with any kind of bike. I let my husband ride my road bike while I took my new Trek mountain bike out for an easy test run. The trail is paved the entire way. If you start near Five Notch road and ride to the golf course, the ride is easy because it is mostly downhill. The ride back to the car is a little tough during the hot summer for people like me who haven't ridden in a while. The road is wide and you have to look out for pedestrians and cross over a couple of streets. I think this trail is excellent for getting your heart pumping!
