I ride this trail up to three times a week. This trail is a lot of fun and can be modified to your desire. There are many alternative routes, jumps, hills, side roads to get out if you run out of gas. I never get tire of it.

Similar Trail: I also enjoy Freedom Park in Williamsburg, but the distance from home keeps me from riding it more often.

Trail is in good condition, some slick tight turns.

This trail was seriously awesome and fun. It would have been easy to get lost but luckily I had some help. Thank you Dar of the EVMA for the impromptu guided tour. I definitely recommend this trail for a fun workout!

This Trail has a quick downhill to start into the trail head. Once you get going on it, it present a challenge here and there, but overall lots of fun to ride on. Lots of roots, a good number log and dirt ramps placed around in different locations, sharp turns, quick slopes and a lot of different trails off the main trail. Can't wait to go back sometime soon!!! Really enjoyed my time out there!!!!

Parking for about 10 cars at the corner of Warwick and Gatewood. Trail starts right there at the parking area, beginning towards the east. Lots of switchbacks on mostly flat/rolling terrain with lots of 2-4 inch tree roots. No signs or markings anywhere, forrested with plenty of shade. There is a railroad track and park ranger road boarding the east side to keep you in boundaries, but I never found trails on the west side of the lake, behind the hospital.

Great trail if you have plenty of time to kill because there's no markings of any kind along the way. Bring your gps & plenty of water just in case. There are lots of jumps in several places & plenty of opportunities to do some serious damage to yourself if you don't know what you're doing. I just uploaded a bunch of pics & added the site to my "virginia trails" page: www.fantabular.net/trails.

Great trail riding. Lots of stuff to hit along the way. Very easy to get lost and no map which was a bit of a downer when I wanted to find my truck. Wish there were trail markers for a loop. Another rider along the way told me to follow the "gravel trail" which I did and it ran into a few dead ends. Leave plenty of time to ride this area. Good idea to go with someone else. I plan to go back.

Nice hidden little jewel. A little further beyond the expert (psh) section on the fire road is fun n fast section thats a little longer than the rest. There's a pretty sik little jump over a creek back there too. Over all it was a nice suprise.

This trail is definitely now one of my favorites. There is a little something for everyone including log hops, jumps, twisty singletrack, etc. but everything has a ride around so that anyone can ride the trails. The trails do have a pretty good amount of roots so I wouldn't ride when it is wet since they will be slippery but otherwise a great set of trails. The only thing you could ask for would be a little more parking(very small) and some trail markings.

I've now been here 3 or 4 times and I like it more each time. It's very accessible and has impressive mileage of singletrack for such a small area. Every time I think I've ridden the whole thing, I find something else. For my beginner level, it is adequately challenging. It has become my local trail of choice.

Good trails. Especially for the somewhat urban location. I lived here over 2 years before I knew these trails even existed. A bit of an exercise in exploration to find all of them but I think that I have. A trail map would be very useful. Also, any signage (trail entrance/exit) would help as I wondered many times if I was traveling the right direction. Very convenient for those living in northern Newport News or south Yorktown.

Excellent trail, in a great location; I ride this trail at least once a week, and its diversity allows for an interesting ride every time. As stated before, this trail is as easy or hard as the rider wants it to be.

Great trail, many hidden paths to be found, great for beginners and can be ridden tough for advanced riders. two laps is a good 12 miles.

Hidden gem in Newport News...if you ride in this area or are visiting check it. Plenty to keep even an experienced rider happy...

the MOST UNDERRATED trail in Williamsburg/Hampton i take beginners to this trail run then through the the main trail (6 miles) which is fairly flat with small log crossings very fluid section, then when they go back to the cars we go back out onto the other 2 trails witch are more rooty and demand more skill. a great place for singlespeeds

I was at this park for nearly 3 hours and had a blast. There are a lot of obsticles and rootS that make it pretty challenging for beginners, but not boring for the more advanced riders. FUN TRAILS!

This is a fun trail to take beginners and/or your kids on. If you've been MTBiking for a while, you won't get board as there are some challenging elements if you're up to giving them a try.

Sometimes a bit confusing with many paths to choose from. Otherwise a great ride. I liked it and will go back to ride it again.

After driving around looking for the trail for an HOUR, I finally found it. When you turn off Warwick (60) onto Gatewood. As soon as you turn onto that, look for the small parking area before you go up the hill & turn to the right. The path is hard to see from the parking area, but when you walk towards the edge of the hill, you'll see it. This trail is fun fun fun! There are several spots where you can get up some speed & get air. I brought my camera & will upload the pics soon. In addition to bridges & obstacles, there are several areas where multiple paths have been created & you can spend as much time as you want in one area riding over the jumps again & again. There's even a huge "tree pyramid" that's about 8 feet tall, built over a fallen tree & its roots! This trail is unique from other local trails because it isn't COVERED with tree roots, but there are some spots where there are a lot of roots. During the ride, you'll run along Lake Maury, which gives you plenty to look at. I passed several turtles that were tanning along the bank. I also saw the normal wildlife mix (squirrels, birds & thought I saw a deer). The strong parts of this trail are its paths that seem to run in every direction, which gives you plenty of options for riding. But at the same time, it's very very easy to get lost. The weak parts of the trail are its lack of signs (I don't think I passed ONE sign in the hour & 45 minutes I was on the trail. Luckily, I had my gps & found my way back to the parking area. If you have a LOT of time to kill, I highly recommend this trail, if you want to hit a trail & blast through it quickly, I recommend Harwood's Mill or something else that's more along the lines of a "single loop". I WILL be going back to this trail w/ friends because it's kind of like Disney World, in that it's hard to do it all in one visit =)

A lot of fun!!! A bit challenging... especially for beginners such as myself. But still very enjoyable. Lots of jumps spread out.
