Description
The 1500 acre Park is located on the western edge of Anchorage against the shores of the Cook Inlet. The natural hilly terrain of the area is perfect for x-country skiing and has been steadily developed as such since the early 70’s with a major push in preparations for the 2001 Special Olympic World Winter Games. Currently there are over 45 miles of main trails and many more secondary trails within the park.
Most of the main trails double wide as they are designed for skiers and maintained with a grooming machine in the winter. This is a very densely forested and brush covered landscape so most of the time the double wide trails are a welcome feature. The trails are well signed complete with maps posted at major intersections with colors corresponding to the difficulty of the trails. Ive heard some of the locals refer to this park as ‘the roller coaster’ due to the fact it seems as if you are always either going up or going down, not much x-country travel.
This area of town is known for its high population of moose and although they are used to seeing people on the trails and never get too excited its always a good idea to give them the right of way, especially if it’s a cow with calves.

Review: The Trails in Kincaid park are awesome. All the Loops are very well marked and maintained. The different loops range from beginner to expert. You will find everything there. Long and short climbs with switchbacks, long and fast downhills with gnarly jumps. BE AWARE OF THE MOOSE. They are everywhere in the summer. We saw 7 different Moose in one day. A buddy of mine had to get 13 stiches in his calf after he got knocked of his bike by a Bull Moose on a fast downhill blind curve........... but hey we went right back to it. Awesome trails. Have fun
