They have now added an irrigation system to the entire trail. Hidden switch near the outhouse! ;)

Sand anyone? I went at a bad time (noon) so I was dying from the sun and the lack of trees needed for shade. Rode over some man-made wooden obstacles and was a little unsure of the stability, but I survived. So much sand...

This place is out there. Sometimes a decent trail is not where you expect it to be. Sand, sand, sand. Worth it? Hard to say it is a hell of a pedal, downhill too, no joke. Deep sand 6-8" sometimes. But there's cool stuff alright. Go early enough becaus despite the short total distance, 8.6mi its damn slow. If youre a tru rider looking to cover all the parks in south florida, you'll find this one fun but interesting. Half pipe is short but very fun. Bridges are falling apart and needs maintenance, but that was half the excitement. Woah!! Did i mention the sand? I would skip gator if you could, but thats not happening. Ill be searching for youtube of aomeone actually pedaling all the way through this one. I dont think so... The park isnt far from 95 and the turnpike and just under 1.5 hours from miami so dont knock it till you've tried it. We joked its where you would send someone if you didnt like them. Lol, but it still needs to be on your list if you are truely hardcore.

Overall, this is a very fun trail - - after it rains! Lots of sugar sand makes it brutal in the middle of Summer. 'Gator Hole' does have some tough roots - and then add SPIDERS in the Summer!! Surprising amount of elevation changes on the Northeast end, but again, lots of sand. LOVE the half-pipe drop-ins. There is an "extreme" area just off the warm up park, but I've not done the whole thing. Looks harry!!??

Gator Hole although a short run is sandwiched with Pametto roots that for the novice would be quite difficult. Adding in the sand factor you could be in a slow go. Half Pipe has some interesting elevation and of course more sand. But the bridges and dips are challenging which makes these two paths intermediate. I didn't get to ride much more other than ranger and out since it was getting dark and it was my first visit I will be back.

Similar Trail: Quite Waters runs the gambit with no suger sand!

I would consider this trail Intermediate. As well as the sand, there are challenging "gator back" sections (palmetto roots). Be sure to go in the cooler months and bring lots of hydration. The Park itself has great camping, hiking, cabins, kayaking on the Loxahatchee River. Really nice.

Similar Trail: none.

Sandy sandy sandy. There are a bunch of loops that go all around the park, and a bunch of maps around. There were some fun ladder bridge/boardwalk style ramps on one section, but mostly it was just a sandy ride. Not much tree coverage, so be sure to bring plenty of water.

If you are a sugar sand baby you need to ride the trail called "fire ring" in the dead of the dry season and in the middle of a hot summer day. After you make it out"if you do" everywhere you go in from that day on will be a breeze and you will not gripe about the sugar sand on other trail ever again.

Wow. Well they try real hard to keep it up, and it is better since they had a race there. It is a long ride from start to finish. Not too much wildlife, but there were snakes (as everywhere else). If you're more interested in a workout than tricky riding, this place is good. It is always very hot because there is no over cover of trees. Very dry and almost all sugar sand until you hit the roots (pretty much walk the bike the whole roots section). The sugar sand is what turns me off here. It is uneventful for me...

My kids and I went there last month, and we were pleasantly suprised. It is a typical central Florida trail with some sugar sand, but enough of climbs and dips to make it fun. We didn't ride all the trails, but we will go back to do some more exploring. I am told that the trails at the back of the MTB area provides really good scenery, but we didn't make it that far. Hope you enjoy it like we did. The trails are marked rather well too.

Too much sugar sand, not an exciting ride. If you live in the area its a good place to build some leg strength. It obvious that the trail builders are making an an effort but they have some tough terrain to work with.

If you gone stir crazy from being in the car to long & want to pedal fine, but don't make this a destination point. You will be disappointed! Very sandy. Nothing technical. Even a beginner could be annoyed with the sandy conditions.

Similar Trail: Head to Markum instead!

I think I rode most of the loops for 8.4 mile total. Trails are well marked. The staff has tried to make this a fun place to ride. But, it's a coastal park and the trail is almost all soft sugar sand. It's the only place I've had to pedal downhill to avoid getting stuck in the soft sand. There are palmetto root snarls that are a challange to try to ride over or through. Almost the entire track is in the sun as the trail winds through secondary growth from burned out areas. Very little shade. Bridges and man-made features are a welcome change and are fun. Bring LOTS of WATER!* Review edited 8/17/2009

Had a blast, sandy yes, but a great time and intense workout. Bring lots of H2o, drained my 24oz bottle and my 3L Hydro Pak...

VERY,VERY,VERY SANDY. this is an ok trail besides the time you spend pumping through sugar sand. it offers a very fun skills section and a few nice bridges, the best trail there is called half-pipe. a very fun up and down ride. also, bring ALOT to drink, it can get very hot due to the fact that there is no shade.

A very nice singletrack trail even though it is very sandy and hot out their. Very nice bridge work making some technical challenge. Lots to do around the State Park!

Similar Trail: Too many to post, but Alafia & Santos are the bomb!

Yes it is hot & very sandy, but it is a good work out and can get some speed. It has some technical sections, but mostly bridges. Has a nice warm up section.

Similar Trail: Too many to post, but Alafia & Santos are the bomb!

Its very sandy, long and easy to get lost. they did a burn out there not to long ago so the expert course is gone. bring lots of water there is no tree cover so its very hot.

I just started riding MTBs and this is my favorite trail so far. It has lots of uphills and downhills, yet is not that difficult to ride. There are so many places to ride in the park that one can spend a day there and have a blast. I will be going back soon.

Similar Trail: No other place in the area quite like it.

I dont know if it was because of the rain or because of all the work it seems that Club Scrub has done but the trails were a lot better this weekend. And they have mulched a lot of the bad areas from the last time I rode there. Be careful if your riding the 8/10s trail, they were a few down trees across the trail that couldnt be moved, and some of them were right at chest level. But all in all the trails were much better this time around.

SUGAR SAND. That pretty much sums it up. I've rode these trails before but probably not for a year and it seems like they are all just sugar sand now. There wasn't much for technical riding although there were some bridges. But I think I remember the Ranger trail having some log climbs and some other stuff on it. It's a good ride for beginners and a good workout for everyone through the sands.

it is worth the drive. although there's alot of sugar sand that's real tough to navigate it's still rideable. Probably best to ride after a rain storm. beautiful scenary for Florida which you don't get at parks in south florida. Not as technical as Markham and Oletta, but you get some decent down hills and bridges. it's a good park to ride once every 3 months or so just to break up other usual rides

is it worth an hour drive?

reviewed by rocketbracket on October 26, 2006

trails here are a bit different from what you might be used to . there are few areas of sand pine roots that are impossible to ride unless you are really good at bunny hop . there are patches of sugar sand that you will need to use granny gear to get thru. Trails have damaged by fires and hurricanes that means complete lack of shade. my fave trails were Osprey and Lake trail with 200 ft long bridge. Overall very nice trails and good for change of your regular pace. there is camping and guided boat trips and canoe rental place in the park.

Park has been reworked after the fire and ready to ride. In summer plan for early am or late pm or else sweat your ass off at noon.

reviewed by ositoking on January 22, 2006

We rode this trail today and the about 60% of the park is burned. I think the trail needs some maintenance. It is more for beginners yet sand covers most of the trail.

I LIKE THIS TRAIL. THE FIRST PART OF THE TRAIL IS COMPLETLEY OUT IN THE SUN NO SHADE AT ALL SO PLAN AN EARLY AM OR LATE PM RIDE. THE SECOND LOOP BRINGS YOU INTO A WELL COVERED AREA MUCH COOLER. THE TRACK GETS NARROW. A COUPLE OF AREA'S THE PALMETTO ROOTS GET BIG HARD TO DEAL WITH. SOME ELEVATION CHANGE TRACK IS WELL MAINTAINED AMD WELL MARKED. OPENS AT 8 AM CLOSES AT DUSK. PARK FEE IS 4.00$ PER CAR.
