Description
They have 20 miles of existing single track with some jeep trails. The trails lead through typical hill country terrain (rocky), with spectacular views, hill climbs (good ones), long downhill sections (best of all), technical single track (yes it is), and several creek crossings (usually dry in the summer).

They do have a map of the area at the main trail head and it is pretty much the main entrance to all the trails. Bring your own water and tools and a couple of tubes! They do have a mechanic stand at the trail head to work on your bike. The cost is $6.00 per person and it is worth every dollar! Fill out the envelopes (at the entrance) and frop your money in the box. NORBA has several races here every year. The downhill race is worth the trip.

Review: When I moved to San Antonio, the first recommendation from a LBS employee was Flat Rock Ranch. This spring we had the opportunity to help out on a trail work day and rode the upper loop. Just yesterday I had the chance to ride the lower loop. Of the two, the lower loop required far less hike-a-biking and had some great, flowy sections as well as fun switchback descents. The upper loop has some great sections and is far more technical. Overall, the trails are great here, very well-maintained and the owners of this private ranch are very personable mountain biking folk. I highly recommend making the trip. Just make sure to keep an eye out for roaming cattle and sheep! I hope to get a day soon that I can dedicate to riding both loops.

Review: Probably the best place to ride in south Texas. Lower loop is smooth for the most part and has some good climbs. Upper loop is alot more climbing with some good technical sections. Be prepared to ride hard here!! Great trails, well maintained.

Review: If I only had one trail to ride in South Central Texas, this is it. This intermediate/advanced trail is smooth enough for a hard tail but most prefer xc. Won't abuse your bike like Govt. Canyon (rocks), but equally challenging. I trade off between the two for variety. After rain I can usually count on FRR to have dry trails way before the ones in San Antonio. FRR is 100% sweet single track all in one direction with only bikers, goats, and cows. The animals all move out of the way and I have never known anyone to get hurt by them. Cow patties make for fun surprises at times. 27 miles in all but if you study and download a map from their site you will be able to cut down a unpaved road or go around more difficult sections if you need to. It is not unusual to run into people that are not up to the challenge of this course because they don't bring a map, enough water, a quality bike with suspension, and/or are not physically up to the challenge, but those that are prepared will love this place! Not the most technical, but definitely the best in the area! The owners are great too. Be sure and be on the look out for the many races they have there. Only downside is that they close for hunting season.

Similar Trail: Govt. Canyon (lots of rocks, more mud to contend with, unless it's a drought of course)

Review: Best ride 1 hour from San antonio. After coming to Texas after 15 years in Utah, was I glad to find this place! Choose the lower loop for less climbing or the upper loop for some decent downhill sections and better views, IMHO.

Review: Best trail in the area. Long climbs with long downhills. Nothing too technical for most intermediate riders, just lots of well kept trails.

Review: This place is a must ride for anyone within driving distance! Although I wouldn’t recommend it for beginners, intermediate and advanced riders will love it! Packed with switchbacks, nice climbs and sweet descents to match, Flat Rock Ranch is a singletrack lover’s playground…just watch out for the cacti and prickly bushes. The Lower Loop puts things into perspective early on by butting you side-by-side with sheer drop-offs as the trail winds around them. Stay focused or you might end up in a 5-foot wash-out as one in our group did. Sprained ankles suck for a mtb’r. Pipeline Hill, with its 1900ft elevation, makes for a great spot to take a break and a few scenic photos overlooking the ranch. Evilworm is a twisted little section of downhill that will get the first-time rider nervous by its name alone. Shortly after Evilworm is a wicked downhill section that you can gain some nice speed on. Just be careful as the trail is somewhat of a rut and a right pedal too low will catch the side – trust me, I know. Although I must say, that was my sweetest 10 ft Superman impression to date and the reason I will continue to always wear a helmet.

Review: This is a great weekend trail unless you have time during the week. They close for a couple of months during hunting season but it is worth the wait. This ranch has two main loops with both being about 12-14 miles each. There are great climbs, views and descents. The owner rides the trails very often and makes sure that the trail is in top condition. Great family run bike ranch with something for everyone. Norba puts on races a couple times a year here and there is also a marathon series that will absolutely kick your butt. Watch the video using the link on the left.
