Description: Located in southern Virginia Beach, False Cape State Park is a mile-wide barrier spit between Back Bay and the Atlantic Ocean. Access is through the Back Bay National Wildlife Refuge and is limited to hiking, bicycling or boating. The park features primitive camping and an extensive environmental education program in one of the last undisturbed coastal environments on the East Coast. Hiking, bicycle trails, self-guided trails. Five trails, including the Barbour Hill self-guided interpretive trail, total 15.3 miles. They are available for hiking, biking and exploration. The park’s location on a barrier spit allows visitors to observe beaches, dunes, maritime forests of oak and pine, wooded swamps, marshes and the bay all in one visit. During the summer, the gnats will swarm and follow you. The trail is best ridden before the heat. You can ride all the way to the Wash Woods area, but only between April 1 and October 31. The interior trails are closed from November 1 through March 31. More info can be found at the link below. http://www.dcr.virginia.gov/state_parks/fal.shtml

first of all it cost $5 to park and you also get a map of the trails and the length of each one. it wasnt bad, i enjoyed it. the trail starts off rough but gets easier. bring sunblock and bug spray. theres water available about 4miles into the trail. there are smaller trails that lead off to the beach but its all deep sand and you'll end up walking most of it. if you are looking to build up some endurance after being off a bike for a while this trail is for you. nothing technical but there is some hill areas.
