Mountain Biking Elk Creek To Hogan Creek Loop

 Add a review
#262 of 265 mountain bike trails in Montana
#32,137 in the world

Elk Creek and Hogan Creek are both great singletracks. Connecting them for a

loop uses a couple gravel roads.

Starting on the road at the west side of Elk Creek, take Road #1297 up and into

Elk Creek. After about 1/2 mile look for signs across a meadow marking the
start of the trail. There is alot of vegetation here but the trail is fairly easy to

spot. There is a creek crossing just beyond the signpost, afterwards the trail is

very obvious.

The ride up Elk Creek is not very technical and climbs gradually. There can be

deadfall and there are a couple stream crossings. The trail comes to a gravel

road (#1295). Go left here and follow the road about a mile to the start of the

Hogan Creek Trail. This is well marked with a sign and the trail is very visible

entering the woods.

Hogan Creek Trail descends quickly and be ready for log waterbars and there are

a couple water crossings. The trail comes to a small meadow and seems to
disappear. Stay to the right side of the meadow and cross the small stream
where the trail picks up again and comes back to Trail Creek Road soonafter.
Go left on the road and cruise back to Elk Creek along the picturesque valley.

This loop is also fun ridden in the other direction; up Hogan Creek and down Elk

Creek.
