Description: This trail is a real mixed bag. It has some of the sweetest flowing singletrack you can imagine. It also has some very loose and exceedingly steep climbs that will force dismounts. Overall, I'm not sure the pain is worth the pleasure on this one and nearby Limekiln Gulch makes for a better ride. Also on the plus side, however are some great views and absolutely no traffic of any type. The most maddening feature is the map on the BLM web site and on the sign at the trailhead indicates a loop of which I found none. In fact, I spent hours wandering the woods looking for a trailhead that doesn't exist on the south end--it's supposted to be the stem of a lollipop loop. So I fianlly gave up and accessed the trail as described above. It went to the top of Collar Peak, much of which was unrideable for all but the superhuman, and ended there with no way to complete the loop.

To find the loop once on top of collar peak simply look for an outline of rocks heading south, opposite from where you came from. From that you get a great long downhill to a neat area and cross a creek. Once at the bottom its uphill and ends part way down a logging road. Just ride out from there back where you started the loop. This section has some spots you'll need to push but its beautiful and totally worth it. If you have time turn around and ride it the other direction. Its like being on a different trail and doesn't take that long.
