Description: Lift bike over gate and follow the fire-road WSW. Watch for single-track on the right approximately 150 yards from the cattle gaurd. This will come out on the fire road after about 1 1/2 miles. Near the west boundary fence, the fire-road turns north, then east and turns back into singletrack. The singletrack trail runs just below the rim of the canyon with a spectacular view of the lake. It has several climbs and descents through feeder gullies. A little rocky and loose in a few sections but overall a great course.

Just got back from a ride on this trail. Thought I'd take the time to update some info here. 1) The admission is now $6 for adults. not sure what the children pay but its probably $2 or $4. 2) After following the directions given I found the gate but NO cattle guard and lock. These trails are now for horseback and ATV riding. It's kinda a drag cause if its busy out there you really have to listen. I DID take the canyon rim trail and the views of the lake are really nice, however the rocks are veeeery slick. I'm using the clipless system on my pedals and I still ran in to some areas where it was so slick on the simple climbing I spun out and had to stop. Be sure to plan for some walking up areas cause its so slick. The good part though is once you get to the end of that mile or so rim trail, there are lots of different paths you can take that have some good downhill rides. ALSO use caution because everything is so slick. 3) If you are a beginner and want to look at a nice view, stay on the fire road and ride around there. It should be something nice and different from a paved road in a city park or something. Overall rating: 2 ---Because they are nice to ride but I think the fact that ATV's are allowed means the trails are really slick because they kind of tore them up a bit. They ARE rideable with a MTN bike but it will be a little more unnecessary work. - Another reason for the 2 is I'm not to fond of paying $6 to ride every-time I go out there. In the Lubbock area there are better maintained Bona-Fied bike trails in the Mae Simmons area on the east side of town that is FREE to ride. Also, there are two state parks each around an hour away that offer some good trails. Palo Duro and Caprock Canyon SP. Its really worth a day trip for these trails. The Buffalo Springs trails are a good ride for something different but if you are expecting to stay on your bike a long time, you might be a little disappointed.
