Description: Local reservoir. It is very low now (Oct \'07) Hard pack near the trees, muddy and slow closer to the water. Some rocky areas made it fun. A good loop of the lake in some slow track, but a good workout. Deep end (north end at the dam) got a little steep and loose, but still a good workout. Good scenery

THERE ARE TWO TRAILS FROM THE PARKING LOT AT MT. HOPE RD. THE ONE ON THE LEFT RUNS 1.0 MILES TO THE EDGE OF BRAMBLETON GOLF COURSE. THIS TRAIL WAS RECENTLY CLEARED OF BRUSH, BLOW DOWNS AND LOW LYING TREES. IT IS SUITED FOR HIKING. THE 2ND TRAIL IS ON THR RIGHT SIDE OF THE LOT, IE NORTH DIRECTION. IT RUNS 1.3 MILES TO THE END/TOP OF THE DAM. IT TOO HAS BEEN CLEARED AND IS GREAT FOR HIKING. ISOLATED WITH GOOD LAKE VIEWS. FOR THE AVID HIKER THE TOTAL TRIP OF 4.6 MILES MAKES FOR A GOOD WORKOUT WITHOUT HAVING TO TRAVEL 30-40 MILES TO FIND A SUITABLE TRAIL. THE TRAIL AND LAKE ARE PROBABLY LOUDOUN/FAIRFAX COUNTY'S BEST KEPT SECRET (FAIRFAX COUNTY OWNS THE LAKE & LAND).

hiked the trail before i rode it. the hike was better than the ride. it is not well maintained and has dead h2o spots all over. it had rained earlier in the week, but these spots are not going away with a couple days of dryness. Nothing great but can be a good change of scenery every once in a while. Beside the beer drinking high schoolers at night there is not a soul around.

This trail is not maintained or apparently not used enough to keep it fun. The trail has little elevation change, some mud holes, some mild rocks, and good views of the reservoir at some locations. I went after a little rain and it was way too wet. However, do not expect this trail to be a fun, challenging, and/or flowy mountain bike trail. If you are going to bike it, anticipate a slow not fun ride with decent areas to sit by the reservoir or bird watch. It would not be a bad trail to walk. Do not make a specific trip there to bike.
