Pros: Great light-weight frame (for a mountain bike), climbs well and very responsive in turns. Mechanical disc brakes are a great edition although I will probably swap them for hydraulic in the future. Don't get me wrong, the mechanical disc brakes are great, you just get much better stopping power with the hydraulic.
Cons: Need to replace the saddle, the hand grips and the pedals.
Recommendation: It is a great hardtail bike that climbs well and handles well. The bike comes with the Sram X.5 packages which is not the best but better than most. I would make this purchase again if I had it to do all over again.
Pros: Great balance, Easy to ride, Pretty light, Good components.
Cons: Rims and tires, and saddle
Recommendation: I already have a list of upgrades, new fork, rims, tires, brakes, derailleurs, grips, pedals, Bars, neck, stem. No need for the upgrades just building on the frame which I love. But a must do is an upgraded saddle!!! I use a WTB Laser V Pro.
Pros: Strong frame, good components, solid ride, quick shifting (when derailers are set properly)
Cons: Brakes and stock tires wore out pretty quick.
Recommendation: I bought the 19.5" frame 2008 model in April 2008, which is pretty much the same as the 09 model. I get frequent compliments from other riders on how good the bike looks and my friends that have taken it for a ride fell in love with it too making comments like "this bike feels expensive" and "it's so easy to ride". The great thing is, this bike isn't too expensive and it is easy to ride. You can't get any better than this dollar for dollar.
This bike handles a lot of punishment and keeps on going. I'm 6'2" and weigh 260 pounds with a 32" inseam. I first used this bike in combination with weight training because my right knee is bad and I can't run long distances. Now I use this for a lot more than just cardio. It's become a lifestyle. So if I can hit the trails hard and with confidence, I'm sure that it can handle anyone else's punishment outdoors. Just look at one of these in person and you can tell that it's a sturdy bike.
I've upgraded some of the components like the tires, brake calipers, grips, pedals, and soon to be the front fork. There's nothing wrong with the fork that's on it right now, I would just like more room for adjustment.
All in all, a great value for someone who's just getting into this sport and is willing to buy upgrades over time.
Cons: Dart One Rock Shox - crap. Don't work in cold weather
Recommendation: A great bike. I bought mine a summer old at East Burke Sports in East Burke at the end of the season for $350. For $229 at JensonUSA.com, I put on a set of killer Marzocchi forks and now have an awesome ride.
Cons: Need to replace the saddle, the hand grips and the pedals.
Recommendation: It is a great hardtail bike that climbs well and handles well. The bike comes with the Sram X.5 packages which is not the best but better than most. I would make this purchase again if I had it to do all over again.
