Mountain Biking Trail 25

***   Add a review
#103 of 283 mountain bike trails in New Mexico
#6,534 in the world

The trailhead is the starting point for both trails 25 and 25A. 25 is a good out and back ride, all up hill out and all down hill back. It can also be ridden as a loop if you have 5 or more hours to spend on a trail.

As a loop you can ride east up trail 25A and then hike and ride across the ridge on trail 8 from the flank of North Baldy towards South Baldy. Trail 25 splits off of trail 8 about ~2 miles south of North Baldy. Trail 25 is all single track and descends down the ridgeline west from trail 8.

Getting there
Coming from Socorro: Head out hwy 60 west to Magdalena. As you enter Magdalena keep an eye out for the Forest Service HQ on the left/south side of the road. The HQ is at the corner of 60 and Poplar St., turn left/south on poplar. Head south out of Magdalena towards Hop Canyon on Poplar ... Poplar will turn into Kelly Rd. When you get to the split to the townsite of Kelly, stay right and head on towards Hop Canyon. Stay on the road past the turn off for Patterson Canyon, and make the run around the north end of Elephant Mountain, you are now headed back to the east. About ~2miles up the canyon the road will re-enter Forest Service land and the road will become very rocky. Start looking for the trailhead and parking area on the right/south side of the road.
