Description: This is a very fun loop, best ridden counterclockwise. The climb is stiff enough to get your heart rate enough, but mellow enough to enjoy. The woods on top are beautiful. Then, you get a long descent with waterbars every 50 yards--lots of oppurtunity for speed and air. Make a figure eight with the Rimrock Trail for more mileage, or you can even add on the Old Baldy loop for a true epic. Stop at the Park Service office in Spearfish and get the free maps. They are very helpful.

Okay, so I'm a Colorado trail runner, and I joined this site to find real trail runs as soon as I got to South Dakota. I'm sorry, but Mickleson just isn't a real trail. This trail is great for trail running. The uphills aren't too intense, and the downhills aren't too hard on the legs, and the scenery is amazing. This was my first real run in the Black Hills, and I can't wait to use these trails to train for my first 100 miler. This should be intense.
