Mountain Biking Extended 7 Mountains Epic

  Add a review
#210 of 295 mountain bike trails in Pennsylvania
#14,233 in the world

This ride offers just about everything. Rail-Trail, Forest Rd (rocky and well maintained), Hair raising rocky and loose decents, fun bombable singletrack, old woods roads, great vistas. Some of it is sandy in places and hike a bike at some points will happen. But it's fun, challenging and a good days outing.

Getting there
I usually start the ride from the Cherry Run parking area just past Weikert in the West End of Union County. You could easily start from Coburn as well. Easiest way to explain how to get there is to take PA-235 south off of PA-45. Turn Right onto Hassenplug Rd and then take Weikert Rd west until you hit Cherry Run. The best thing to do is to get a hold of the Griz Guide "Mountain Biking Bald Eagle State Forest" and combine the "Tunnel Mountain" ride with the "Seven Mountains Enduro Epic" ride. Start out from Cherry Run heading up Cherry Run Rd. TL up Old Mingle rd. Climb Old Mingle, pass Lick Hollow Rd and go straight down Old Mingle. At the bottom head to your Right on the Fisherman's path. At the end of the path you will jump out onto Rail trail that will lead you through Ingleby and Thru the Tunnel Mt tunnel. You will also cross an old RR bridge over Penn's creek. Once thru the tunnel continue straight on the paved rd. Make a R into Coburn and then a Left after the metal bridge. Follow this rd until you can turn L onto Milheim Pike. Here is where you get creative beyond the Griz rides. Keep climbing Millheim Pike past where the guide says to turn L up an unridable climb. Stay on the Pike and turn R at the Plantation Trail. There is a large clearing with a gate. Take the trail to the Left not the new looking forest rd. The best thing to do from this point is no listen to me and grab a map and the guide. There is alot going on here and the guide is pretty easy to follow. Once you hit the end of Panther Hollow follow these follow directions. The Seven Mountain portion of the ride will dump you back out onto Poe Valley Rd. Make a Right at the bottom of Panther Run Rd or Panther Hollow Tr. (which ever you decide to take down) This road takes you into Poe Paddy State Park. Take a Left into the park at the T intersection. Follow this rd onto the next intersection and make a Right at the bottom of the little hill. This will put you back on the Rail Trail thru the Paddy Mt Tunnel. Run this out to the the rd and Cherry Run. This is a dual sport bike course and there definately are sections that let you know that a motor would be nice. But most of the ride is pretty fun. Once you do the ride you can learn what you would like to avoid. There are ways to modify it to your liking.
