      Hey guys-

What is the best bang for your buck on a bike computer. I just need distance ridden- average speed, current speed- etc normal stuff. I also need it to read in miles and not km 😃 Not looking to spend a fortune.

Thanks for all the help guys… This place is great for us newbs

Do you guys recommend wireless over wired ???

If you are looking for cheap and basic, you can pick up a Bell at Target for 20 bucks. I used one for about a year before it crapped out. Thought it was the battery, but after replaced it still didn’t work right, so it got the ol’ heave ho. I haven’t used one since.

Thanks- I just picked up the Bell platinum. For what it cost I will be very happy with it lasting a year. I love the 15 different features it has…

I love my Bell F20. It is wired and works great. No issues. I mountain bike so I do not need a sensor for my petals. It also helps me track mileage for maintenance. If you have a smart phone there are several "apps" to get. They also keep track of your GPS trail which is kind of neat. If you use more than one, i.e. computer and GPS, you will notice they do not match. Or at least I have never been able to get them too. By the way I use MOVE! Bike computer and started using Strava. And also use the training section with membership on Singletracks.

Cateye Strada Wireless on all three of my bikes. Only had two problems with them over the 5yrs I’ve used them:

1 – at a stupidly muddy race some mud got between the computer and the mount and jammed the buttons and reset all the settings on the computer. I can’t emphasis just how stupidly muddy the conditions were, we shouldn’t have been riding that day.

2 – on my commuter/road bike I have the computer mounted to the left of the stem, and a high powered LED headlight to the right. When the light is on it interupts the signal to the computer and it doesn’t work. So I’ll probably eventually put a wired computer on the roadie. With a helmet mounted light (which I use for night MTBing) it doesn’t interfere.

The very first one I bought was about 5yrs ago. I crashed on it once and cracked the screen, but it still works. Had to change the battery a few times obviously. I’ve never had the screen come out of the mount while riding or while crashing. Not the cheapest computer out there, but considering how long I’ve had it, I think it’s a good value.
