Brett Rheeder bombs the DH trails at Coast Gravity Park in British Columbia… at night! Teton Gravity Research just posted this behind-the-scenes video a couple days ago and I’m blown away by:
- How fast Brett is riding at night.
- How much work goes into setting up shots like this.
- And finally, how Brett manages to stay on the bike in the transitions from full light to complete darkness!
The LED lights these guys are using are INSANE. Wonder how many lumens they’re pumping out? Perhaps the better question is, how many helmet lights would Brett need to ride this fast on his own? 🙂
When I raced quads, we had 6-hr night races in the summer and you’d be surprised. You get like this “tunnel vision” because all you really see is the trail for the most part. The challenge I think he had the most was, approaching the light set and then (as you said, Jeff) transitioning to dark. But it’s easier when you don’t focus so much on the light, which is what he was more than likely doing, focusing on the trail. My night light pumps out 1200 and I get going pretty good on that, but in admission, I know the trails I’m riding. So familiarity also goes a long way. Not mitigating the “sweetness” of this project/video. Just sharing from my night riding experience in the past. Regardless, it looks cool and thanks for the share. Take care.
