A week ago we ran a small contest on our Facebook page and asked YOU to submit your best Throwback Thursday mountain bike photos. And boy, did you deliver! Check out the contest winners below, and then click on to see the rest of the entries.
Winner #1 is David Lingle! David submitted several incredible #tbt shots, but this first one, complete with body armor, purple lycra, and a headshock, takes the cake! If this isn’t early 90’s mountain biking, I don’t know what is!
This old school bikepacking shot from the mid 80’s is also pretty impressive. Who says bikepacking is a new trend? Be sure to browse through the rest of the photos below, as a couple more of David’s shots are in there.
What a classic old school downhill shot from Big Bear, the capital of 90s NORBA DH racing! Take a close look at the bike and gear in this photo, too–very cool! Nice job, Chris Sgaraglino!
While 2001 isn’t quite as old school as some others on this list, there’s a lot of 90s going on right here: bright bike and helmet, skin-tight spandex, shorty shorts, and a sleeveless jersey. At least the guy’s ripped! Congrats on third place, Tom LeCount.
This shot submitted by Sharing the PCT deserves an honorable mention. The PCT wasn’t always closed to mountain bike access, as this photo from a 1983 newspaper indicates. If you haven’t checked out the Sharing the PCT Facebook page before, go over there and read some of their posts. Very informative and educational.
