Even mountain bike repairs are going online.

Online mega retailer JensonUSA recently announced a new suspension overhaul and seasonal service offering. A promo for the service says, “Simply pull your fork or shock off your bike, box it up and send it our way. Our Certified Mechanics will refresh and rebuild your suspension and send it back clean and ready to ride. It’s really that easy!”

The company says their United Bicycle Institute trained staff mechanics are certified to work with forks and shocks from DVO, Fox, Marzocchi, Öhlins, and Rock Shox and that service turnaround times are about 72 hours. There are two levels of service — Seasonal Fresh and Factory Refresh — priced starting at $100 and $160, respectively. Depending on the item and the service, the cost may be as high as $200.

Customers fill out a short online form noting the model they’re sending in, along with information about any problems they’re experiencing. JensonUSA says they can generally work on suspension components up to five years old. Following check out, JensonUSA emails a prepaid shipping label to the customer, and return shipping on the back end costs $7.95. The service is currently only available to customers in the United States.

Local bike shops have seen many of their customers shifting purchases online over the past several years, making repairs and service an ever more important part of their revenue stream. JensonUSA’s mail order suspension service will also compete with factory direct suspension service from brands like Fox and also specialty suspension servicers like Push Industries and Traxxion Dynamics.
