I have long been on the search for the ideal helmet. My head is large but narrow, so it’s difficult for me to find a helmet without pressure points. Often a size medium helmet is just a hair too small, and with a large I have to dial in the retention mechanisms all the way to keep the helmet in place.
The Smith Forefront, however, fits me perfectly. Smith used a unique material called Koroyd that distributes the weight of the helmet evenly over your entire head, making the helmet feel even lighter than it is. The shell is nice and deep with more rear coverage than a classic XC-style helmet. With the straps and Vapor Fit dial adjusted properly, the Forefront feels solid on my head, giving me confidence that my brain is protected.
There is a drawback to the Koroyd: you can’t scratch an itchy head without removing the helmet, but that’s a small price to pay. Smith offers the Forefront in a wide variety of colors and with or without MIPS protection. As I mentioned in the full review, the looks may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but in terms of comfort, it’s a winner in my book.
