In many ways, downhill can be viewed as the pinnacle of the sport of mountain biking. Above and beyond the extreme difficulty of this discipline, the equipment required is the burliest and the most cutting edge–and with that focus on performance comes a high price tag.
However, Mongoose is trying to destroy that perception, in keeping with their goal to get more people into the sport and to increase participation, by introducing the 2018 Boot’r DH bike with a $2,499 MSRP.
The Boot’r features a full 8 inches (200mm) of suspension travel front and rear, featuring the same free floating suspension technology as the new Teocalli, coupled with a horst-link design. The Boot’r rolls on 27.5″ wheels and features clean lines thanks to internal cable routing.
The Boot’r is spec’ed with an inverted dual-crown Manitou Dorado Expert fork, an X-Fusion coil over rear shock, a Shimano Zee 1×10 drivetrain, Tektro Slate T4 brakes, Sun Ringle Duroc 35 rims, and Schwalbe Magic Mary 27.5×2.35″ tires.
Comparison to Commencal
As far as I’m aware, the only other current model year dual crown downhill bikes approaching this price point are from direct-to-consumer brand Commencal: the Supreme DH V3, Furious Origin 650b, and the Supreme DH V4 Essential, all also priced at $2,499. But one bonus of the Boot’r over the bikes from Commencal? You could see this bike on your shop’s salesroom floor and take it for a test ride, thanks to Mongoose’s worldwide dealer network.
However, we do not yet know country/dealer availability for the Boot’r–we’ll be sure to update once that information comes available.
The 2018 Boot’r should will be available for sale on Amazon beginning Spring 2018. It will also be for sale through bike shops in Russia.
Claimed weight on the Boot’r is 18.01kg, or 39.7lbs–very competitive with the Commencal bikes linked above.
