The Hero MTB Himalaya, a 7-day stage race, will see its 2015 rendition taking place from September 26th to October 4th.
Marketed as the 3rd toughest mountain bike race in the world, this stage race boasts over 46,000 feet of climbing, over 370 miles of riding, and a top altitude of over 13,000 feet.
Interestingly, the press release I received claims that the Hero MTB Himalaya is “regarded as the third highest Mountain Biking event in the world after Trans-Alps Challenge (Europe) and the Trans- Rockies (Canada).” Interestingly, La Ruta de los Conquistadores, historically regarded as the toughest mountain bike race in the world, isn’t on that list. And what about the Tour Divide? It seems that exactly which race is the toughest is an ongoing source of debate… so take all of this with a grain of salt. 🙂
Regardless, the Hero MTB Himalaya will be a formidable challenge. Here are the official stats:
