bikesdirect.com has some non-name bikes that are actually pretty good.  A friend of mine has a Motobecane from there, it showed up fast and he has been riding it a ton.  It’s been damn reliable too, even after being raced on several courses.

Funny you guys mention Maxxis.  My other bikes have Maxxis, never had any issues on the same trails.  I never even thought about them.  Loved the Ignitors on my Kona.  And my kids have WTB tires (Velociraptors!).

I’m a heavy guy, not worried about weight on the bike. 😉

When these Nics wear out or fail, I’ll make the switch.

    Thanks guys!

I have a 2015 Anthem SX.  I absolutely love it and have only changed out the rear tire.

I don’t like to think about where my feet are on the pedals. Click in, ride.

Any of the respected manufacturers out there, watch for them, check pawn shops and craigslist. I wouldn’t shy away from any Kona/Trek/Giant/Specialized/Norco/Felt/Scott/Cannondale/Novara etc.

A buddy of mine just picked up a brand new Jamis at the bike shop that was two years old for $600. Full suspension and not a bad bike at all. Go see what the shops have in the way back!

I’ve broke 3 helmets, but no skulls, so I’m all for helmets! 😄

    Glad the bike is ok!

He built a freakin awesome set for my Kona. Made a really great difference to the way the bike felt.

I don’t know anything about the efficiency of clipless, but I like them more than not. Once I’m in, I don’t worry about foot position. I just ride and enjoy.

It’s all personal preference. Clipless took me a while to get used to, and a few falling over for all to laugh at stops and a few crashes to realize that my feet won’t break off in the pedals when I crash.

    I ride Shimano SPD.

Good luck! Have a fun ride.

in reply to: 29er’s FS for Wife that is 5′ even? #126988

I was recently shopping for a bike and rode 29ers and 27.5s. The 29ers do roll over stuff better, but the 27.5 felt better to me at 5-8. Both bike I rode were Anthems. I ended up with the Anthem SX 27.5 and I am enjoying it! Still hauls the mail over roots and rock gardens and I feel balanced on it.

For me the biggest difference was going from 26 to the 27.5. On paper, it didn’t look like much of a change, but it is.

    Have her try several out!

    I’ve only taken 1 pic… I need to stop more? 😄

I had my first Anthem ride on Sunday. I LOVE THIS BIKE! It feels perfect. It feels balanced, and plush and confident.

I even felt comfortable to ride sections I couldn’t ride before because I was scared.

Thanks for the heads up. I had seen there was a recall, but I’m not worried. I’m not a rider who enjoys drops, just some aggressive XC.

    I made my decision! 😄

    [size=150:34grcibv]Anthem SX[/size:34grcibv]

I needed a small frame, so it will be here this week and I will take it out ASAP! I did test ride the Medium, and its freakin awesome! For those of you with out a dropper seat post…. I can’t believe I ever lived without one and they are worth considering.

It is an odd situation. I’ve not ridden a 27.5" wheeled bike, but I did like the Anthem 29er a lot when I rode it a few years ago before I had the coin saved up for a new ride.

What I may do is pickup a used steel 29er and the Anthem SX 😄

in reply to: Butcher tires #126319

Never ran a Specialized tire, but a riding buddy of mine loved his Purgatory tires. I’ve liked a lot of WTB tires.

    I have to read? Pft….

    Thanks for the articles!

I don’t have any knee pain or back pain. I just look huge on there. I dunno, maybe that is just the woman in me 😄

The Round and Round is awesome. I think there were 720 riders this year. We had a 5 man team, lots of beer and great fun. There are solo riders, two man, 5 man, 10 man…. the list goes on. There are riders in costume, men in bikinis, girls in bike shorts (my favorite) and dancing girls at check stations.

Its 24 hours of mountain biking. The course is 15 miles, with fast sections, technical sections and hills to go up and down and a section beside a river to cool you down.

    Thanks for the input!

    UPDATE:

I LOVE THESE 725mm WIDE BARS!

I have been on quite a few rides now; technical, fast and night rides and I absolutely love the comfort and the control. I feel more confident as a rider.

Dustin, I get to really try out my new wheels tomorrow too. See how they feel on the track I ride. I can’t wait! Its been so long with out riding. Trails are finally clear and just some small patches of snow/ice.
