I’m afraid of using the clipless because of not being able to get out of them when I really need to and on the stuff I ride that could end up being tragic.

This is what I use and it works great. Pedals with adjustable screw pins that stick out of them and soft sole shoes. The screw actually sink into the shoes and lock them down but you can pull right out of them easly in an emergency.

That’s how I roll and it works great for me.
